I went detecting yesterday at a house built around 1800. I was detecting in the side yard and got a great high tone. I soon located it in some dirt I dug out of the hole.

Here is the Large Cent still in the dirt.

Here it is after a gentle toothpicking. It turned out to be an 1817, which is my oldest Large Cent so far :hello2:

I also dug a 1907 V Nickel, and my buddy who I was detecting with dug an awesome 1889 IHP.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Nice large! Still looking for my first. Congrats

Great looking LC with nice detail! :occasion14:

Well done with the find as well as the cleaning.

Sweet finds I would love to have a large cent in my display case. The oldest large cent I have is a wheat penny that some one must have put on a railroad track. I also have a screw drivered coin I made myself that's the closest Ill get to a hammered coin . Not a lot of old history here in A2 but I love seeing people find those kinds of coins theres gotta be some out there with my name on it.. Great job!! Thanks for sharing em Tommy

congrats on the two great finds:icon_thumright:

Congrats on the nice LC!

Mine are usually toasty... good to see someone getting a nice one.

Best of luck to you!

That's on my bucket list ,but here in southern New Mexico it's like finding a gold coin, congrats super find

There it is!! You are doing phenomenal recovery work, bud. What a great double-century coin, and nice careful restoration!

That is a nice one, but if your digging in Vermont, I predict that won't be your oldest for long. It's just a matter of time before you dig a Draped Bust.

Just knock on a few frat house doors in A2 or Ypsi and you'll find coins from the 1880's and 90's I bet!

Congrats on the great LC- she's in pretty sweet shape!
