I've always wanted a nice shooting bench but never took the time to build one. Last year I dismantled my old 30 yr. old large deck (built new one) and recycled some old wood. Today I got help moving it up to the new deck and got to try it out....! It works great and is very stable. The old wood was cleaned up and planed, stained and has 3 coats of a marine sealant.

I had fun shooting the .22 rifle you see and trying out (again) the different ammo thru it. I can't believe the difference in all the ammo including the "high end" ammo I've shot thru this rifle. I ordered another brick of Eley Force today which this rifle "seems" to like. It's a Texan built KIDD rifle all tricked out. It's based on a Ruger 10/22 but on steroids. It's topped with a Strike Eagle scope.

For those of you folks who like shooting your .22 or ANY rifle and don't have a shooting bench.... please take the time to build one or buy one. Much more user friendly then anything else to shoot from. I wish I would have built one YEARS ago now....! Just thought I'd share mine and advise.

Now that's right nice.
Greatly appreciate your sharing it.
Now to put it on the want list.

Sweet!

Let's see ,bench..Bench?
Ok butthead... I'm not a English major. I'm building pepperj one now (tons of wood left!) You don't get one now. Maybe later.... And that's a MAYBE sir. Well probably.... Looks like ya already got one anyhow...!
:laughing7:

Got lucky and found a well used workbench for the new pole barn.

last wood involved project was a base for a water transfer pump before I rebuilt the pump.
the pump liked to walk around when the engine was running. Plus dirt and mud potential. More so because I'm eyeing a swamp application. So platform /base it is.
Never mind how it looks.
But draining the oil and removing fasteners to take the pump apart were not helped by the %#@* !!! wood platform!!

I use a monoped shooting sick when not using a window to shoot.
A purchased , not built by me shooting stick.
There's a good reason I didn't build it.

You want square , plumb and flush?
I'm not your guy.

That surely will work just fine. The bench doesn't have to be fancy to be functional. I just wanted one that was large enough to hold my spotting scope and a couple of rifles. Once I got started I couldn't shut down the ol' thinker. I added a shallow left / right tray to put spent shells in or any tools. Then... (why not) I added a shallow back tray for whatever. Mine is gonna stay on this new deck under a roof with a ceiling fan overhead. I got 2 targets set up. A 25 yd. and 50 yd.

I have fun shooting with other folks. Comparing rifles, ammo and expertise is a blast. I put in a 4 ounce trigger pull to try out today. I used an 8 ounce yesterday and IT"S TOUCHY as hell.

nice. I once purchased a bunch of different brands of .22 LR ammo (including match grade) and spent time on the bench seeing what ammo was the most accurate out of this particular rifle. 10 shot groups. Believe it or not, Remington Yellowjackets ended up being the most accurate (and flattest shooting). Cheapest and most filthy .22 ammo you can find. Go figure.

I’d like to construct a concrete shooting bench. That’s on my list.

Well I just looked at too many benches in images.
Yup I will say yours is a top contender for the best in the class.

So when do I look for the delivery.😁
Throw one of toy boxes in for good measure.
I have a little buddy that would be filling up his new storage unit.
(Just kidding)

Now, that's craftsmanship. Well done... :occasion14:

That's a seriously modified 10/22..bet that thing is an absolute tack driver when shooting off the bench like that.

Thanks pepper.... On that "delivery" thingy. I probably have enough wood left to build 50 of them. I'll build you one twice as nice, drive by releventchair in MI. and deliver. So if I lie and you swear to it he'll never know. But let's not hold our breath on that comment and move on for now. You'll come closer to getting a toy box.... don't get all geeked up.... I said closer. :laughing7: I'm going to post a pic of the 23 toy boxes soon for this years donations soon. Waiting on memorial plates from engraver now. I too looked at many images and finally just threw in my own ideas and measurements. But it works great and is very stable on the 5 legs..

Don't doubt ya at all... I've learned a lot shooting several of my .22's. I've bought all the cheap ammo and MANY different high end (match grade) ammo. But I'm stumped why some .22's like the cheaper / dirty ammo over the "better" ammo...?

But I do know this: The better the rifle (and it's set up) the more it likes the high end ammo. I see a difference in grouping out of this KIDD rifle using low to high end ammo. But I don't as much using a lesser modified .22 rifle. Wish ya were close by because we'd have a blast. I never heard of a concrete shooting bench.... TALK ABOUT STABLE...!!!!!!!

agreed. This was also a 10/22.

The concrete bench was just an idea I had, but apparently there are expensive pre-cast benches available in some areas. I envision it being very steady.

I’d like to have 2 of them side by side. You could shoot with your buddies or set up two guns.

Mr. Dizz.... THANK YOU sir. It was good use of some old wood. The wood cleaned up a lot better then I thought it would.

And yes it's a great rifle. I have fun letting "new" folks shoot it. I always ask them to find the target in scope, then find trigger but don't fire it. Many fire off a round instantly. "But... I didn't even pull the trigger...!" Sure you did. Many people have never shot an 8 ounce trigger let alone a 4 ounce one.

Anybody can look up KIDD .22 rifle's and parts. It's a great product. But it isn't cheap either. So you got to be serious about grouping shots or it's a waste of money. I've never shot .22 competition but am curious about it. I used to shoot professional archery and many ideals and mindsets overlap. Being a semi-auto it is very accurate. Using Eley Force ammo yesterday I shot 5.... 5 shot groups. 4 out of 5 groups had 2 holes at 50 yds. with the "stray" within 1/4". The other group had 3 holes all within 3/8". I have a learning curve to go through with this Strike Eagle scope. For the first time yesterday I cranked it up to 50X @ 50 yds. I literally could see a fly's ass @ 50 yds. on the bull. But that comes with it's own problems which effect the mindset and squeezing the trigger. You wouldn't "think" an 8 ounce trigger would have a pull travel but it does. And it's a short trip and a learning curve. Not like a normal 5-8 lb trigger pull on a lot of rifles. I wanted a .22 better than me and I got what I wanted. Next up is Lapua Center X ammo then Eley Match at over $20.00 P/box of 50.

I also own a Ruger made 10/22 and I love it. It's all stock except for a modified trigger pull. But my Ruger made 10/22 is not the one pictured on my new bench. My stock 10/22 could not show the difference in the high end ammo vs the lower end either.

The rifle I showed on my new bench is "based" on a Ruger 10/22. The barrel, receiver and trigger were custom made by KIDD and then I bought the thumb hold stock and all the other stuff. From there it was tricked out even further. There's not a single Ruger component on my target rifle shown. But this rifle KNOWS the difference between low and high end ammo unlike my basic 10/22. I don't know the reason why.... but it does...????

Your idea of side by side benches sounds like fun guy. And your right they would be steady. My new bench is and if it EVER started to move around I'll shoot a few 3" screws to anchor it down to my deck. I hope ya get your concrete bench guy.... Brad

My interests in small arms went something like this. BB > Pellet > .22 rimfire >. 17 HMR rimfire.

The .17HMR has me hooked. Just incredibly accurate. Dime size groups all day at 100 yards with no wind. That’s with a stock gun and a horrible 14 pound gritty trigger.

Guy I was torn between buying a high end 17 HMR or .22. I went .22 and am now stuck with it. I love to compete and am trying to learn how to shoot this rifle. I have a ways to go yet I believe with just what I have available to play with. But yesterday using Eley Force I came close to 5 shots in a 1/4" group 4 times. That may be all I can hope for using rimfire ammo. Even cleaning the rifle and barrel moves the groups in micro increments.

But I damn near went with a .17 HMR. I just didn't have the range here to play with. YOU would have a blast (and a learning curve) with an 8 ounce trigger. But you'd like it.... I promise.

Very nice Brad!! :headbang:I went this direction for now... being a home builder you think I should/could build a beauty!:laughing7:8-)

Well that will work buddy...! I could have bought one easily but just wanted one heavier and larger. But I KNOW you could build one like mine or much better....!!!!
