I went down 44 minutes south of me. The other B.O.B members were either away or being pansies (jk) so I was solo. I was looking for colonial foundations. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1462667963.817809.jpg

They were on the 1860's map but an early 1930's aerial didn't show squat[ as far as clearings, so they must have disappeared a long time ago. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1462668042.591622.jpg

Once on the ground I realized the Bramble factor was high, very high...and many of you know the Basstards of Bramble don't shy away from thick ****. It was about a level-9, so I hunted what I could and left.

I hit a few other "plan B spots" and came up with some keepers. They were all obvious on old maps and well hunted but I came away with a roached draped bust, and some modern silver. I dig mostly junk, which I left out.

Sorry, no in-situ pics. I left my phone in the car most of the day.

As you all know "boots on the ground" is everything. Research can only take you so far, and going from a computer screen to dirty boots isn't always a successful venture. I guess after that virgin colonial spot I researched in PA a few weeks ago that failure is the only way to find the next one.

Cheers and keep up your research.

Steve

Nice work Scrappy, I'd be happy with the Barbers...

Nice saves Steve, The others may have been out shopping for Mother's day or something? Glad to see you post some keepers. You did way better than me today.

I got a permission today, was so stoked, a house built in the mid 1800s and it had a one room building on the lot that used to be a doctors office. Only dug modern coins. It must have been hit 25 or more years ago since the current owner for the last 24 years never let anyone detect it until today.

nice finds! nice researching it does payoff sometimes .

I'm jealous you got out dude. A couple silvers and a toasty LC is a big success to me. No joke with the boots on the ground... Countless times I've hiked up and down a mountain knowing I'm within a hundred yards of the cellar I'm looking for and never found it. Many hunts I get excited about thinking they'll be incredible only to be totally let down. So now I just expect the worst and then I'm always happy. Ha. Also I go to my main site when I want to goods as something cool always turns up. Great hunt dude. Hope to get out soon.

Scrappy that's a bunch of good stuff , all items that tell you that sites old.
I'd hunt it again. For sure. The DB is early flat buttons too. Good research hh gl

Double silver and a LC is a great day in my book

Great day!! I'd take a couple "modern" barbers any day. Lol

Nice hunt/good research. Funny how time changes so much stuff. I just wish google maps would do more updating. "Speaking of google maps , does anyone know if there is a way to update them or refresh them so they are more up to date, or just have to wait for them to update?" Always seems to be a couple years behind around here?

Congrats on some nice stuff
Thx man. It was a mixed grade out there and I was finding modern junk in with the oldies.

Thx Loco, many times my first visits to sites end in all modern crap, but take another look and you might be surprised what you find. And take Kevin's brother-in-law too!

It does pay off, for me about 10% of the time;)

Thanks for looking

I know, you and I had just chatted and I looked out the window it was raining. I said screw it, had the opportunity, and went for it.

Ohhhhh! I see! I'm the pansie?!?! I do believe someone I asked to come said they were going to roll over and get more sleep because it was raining! Haha

RAIN??? 7 straight days of rain this week---the farm I have been hitting with FMERG for 7 weeks is more like chocolate pudding :---(((. want a chuckle??___Frank with his front drive Jap van and my 4WD blazer stuck in the muck----we looked like a pair of total tards(take your pick --use a "u") ,,,shovels are for more than digging treasure

How true. Some old sites don't have any coin, many don't have any silver, and you see it posted often "there must be silver there" no there doesn't have to be. For what ever reason, whether or not they had any, or just careful with it ?

Anyway you did pretty good in the end, a couple of silvers, and a crusty copper. Heck it's been a long time since I got two silvers in one hunt, longer than I care to remember.

Well done Scraps!

Two Barber coins would have been a banner day for me. Glad to see that you got out. Not every spot can yield 10 BIG coppers!

Best of luck to you!

Some nice finds, Scrappy! I agree with you. Research opens up possibilities, but the boots get it done! I once went looking for a home site that only appeared on an 1865 map. Deep in the woods, and after 2 days of ticks and sawbriar wounds, I found it. I pulled a couple of cool relics, but I think I was most excited about actually finding the site!

That's a funny story. Even funnier is I almost got my wife's car stuck on this hunt. I went tearing through the mud and barely made it out. Got home and her Prius was covered in mud, and she was pissed
