I went down 44 minutes south of me. The other B.O.B members were either away or being pansies (jk) so I was solo. I was looking for colonial foundations. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1462667963.817809.jpg

They were on the 1860's map but an early 1930's aerial didn't show squat[ as far as clearings, so they must have disappeared a long time ago. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1462668042.591622.jpg

Once on the ground I realized the Bramble factor was high, very high...and many of you know the Basstards of Bramble don't shy away from thick ****. It was about a level-9, so I hunted what I could and left.

I hit a few other "plan B spots" and came up with some keepers. They were all obvious on old maps and well hunted but I came away with a roached draped bust, and some modern silver. I dig mostly junk, which I left out.

Sorry, no in-situ pics. I left my phone in the car most of the day.

As you all know "boots on the ground" is everything. Research can only take you so far, and going from a computer screen to dirty boots isn't always a successful venture. I guess after that virgin colonial spot I researched in PA a few weeks ago that failure is the only way to find the next one.

Cheers and keep up your research.

Steve

How true. Some old sites don't have any coin, many don't have any silver, and you see it posted often "there must be silver there" no there doesn't have to be. For what ever reason, whether or not they had any, or just careful with it ?

Anyway you did pretty good in the end, a couple of silvers, and a crusty copper. Heck it's been a long time since I got two silvers in one hunt, longer than I care to remember.
You pretty much summed up a lot of my own feelings and conclusions, except one: if you go to a new site expecting nothing, you'll generally be happily surprised.
Well done Scraps!

Two Barber coins would have been a banner day for me. Glad to see that you got out. Not every spot can yield 10 BIG coppers!

Best of luck to you!
Haha 10 big coppers. Whatta day. Unfortunately not much could top that hunt. That reminds me - I need your address. I have a gift
Some nice finds, Scrappy! I agree with you. Research opens up possibilities, but the boots get it done! I once went looking for a home site that only appeared on an 1865 map. Deep in the woods, and after 2 days of ticks and sawbriar wounds, I found it. I pulled a couple of cool relics, but I think I was most excited about actually finding the site!

Those cellar holes and foundations can be sneaky. I found a standing stone house deep in the woods with the B.O.B crew and we didn't see it until we're were upon it. I'm talking 25'!

I beginning to believe there are not many sites exist on public maps haven't been found and hunted. Sad but true . Thx for looking

Another successful outing Steve. But be careful not to reveal the location of your spots. You'd be surprised the trouble some will go through to steal them.

Haha, yep, first map I ever posted. With technology advancing way faster than even I can keep up with, I'm sure someone can probably figure it out.

Great hunt Scrappy! Congrats and HH
