Had a great trip to the Peace River yesterday... My friend got a nice Megalodon that I'm pretty jealous of but I'm very happy with what is now my largest tiger shark tooth it measures one and a half inches.
Got alot of teeth and fossils.. A few alligator teeth a horse tooth two alligator gar teeth a couple nice turtle leg Spurs gar fish scales and numerous stingray mouth pieces.

Nice finds Gatorboy. I have a couple Tiger shark teeth but they aren't fossilized. When is the best time of year to screen the river? The Peace river is on my bucket list and hopefully I can make it there this coming year. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated? You can pm me if you don't want to advertise a response on the web. When I was a kid we used to find sharks teeth by the hundreds up in North Beach Md. and the Calvert Cliffs. My grand dad had mason jars full of them and other assorted fossils. Now that I mention it, I wonder what happened to all that stuff?

Anytime the water is low is best for screening.
The daily water level is provided online.
No real tips other than the river is constantly changing.. The idea is to find a gravel layer and sift that material for teeth and other fossils.
Places like bends in the river tend to gather gravel.
I guess one tip would be... Use a probe and find layers of gravel that aren't obvious and don't be afraid to dig a deep hole.
Also.. Look for areas of the river bank that are steep and show erosion as well as a darker grayish clay and gravel layer and find where that material has gathered just downstream from it... Or if possible Dig directly to that material below the sand layer in the river.

If the water level is high a lot of people don't realize a pretty effective way of finding large teeth is to go immediately after a heavy rain and search washouts and other areas of the bank that have been washed down to the clay layer where the larger teeth settle.

That was a hard days work. Sifting is not a cake walk but it sure paid off for you. Congrats on the Tiger tooth. One mean fish~!

Thank you! I'm very happy... and a bit tired.

Very nice. We found 112 shark teeth today up on Hilton Head Island. None of them large or too nice, but still a good time finding them. The kids were in the zone.

That's a good day keeping the kids occupied is a plus.

This is as close as I got to a Meg

Wow, nice meg!
And that is an awfully large tiger...
I may be down at the peace river in about a week or two, and I may see you!
It would be nice to meet you.

Exactly how large is your mayumbensis? (or is it a modern?) Looks to be well over the 1" mark!
YOu don't find too many mako teeth in the peace though. I've been there 3 trips, and only have ever found a hastalis lateral tooth.

Looks like you had a great trip. The weather was nice for you guys as well. One of the last few weekends before we need to hop into the waders.

Yeah..it was great.
Believe it or not I saw a few spots I would like the water to rise up to

The Tiger is exactly 1 1/2" biggest one I've found.
I don't have anything modern which one are you asking about? I'm too tired to try to figure out the scientific term at the moment since I don't speak that way regularly
