Found my first silver coin today! it's a Mercury Dime from 1917 :icon_thumleft:
Also found a 1977 Ike coin, a 1956 Penny and a 1976 Dime. "Just thought I might throw that in there"
And also, a whole lot of junk! I figured i would clean the Mercury dime, since it's junk silver and I want to keep it with my collection of World coins :)

And to top it of!! i found a Merchant coin, Good DSCN1531.jpgDSCN1534.jpgDSCN1536.jpgDSCN1540.jpgDSCN1541.jpgDSCN1542.jpgDSCN1544.jpgDSCN1546.jpgDSCN1548.jpgDSCN1550.jpgDSCN1554.jpgDSCN1557.jpgfor 5 cents in trade 8-)

Selsaro I started with a harbor freight also.. It worked well for the price. Keep it around it will make a good loner for others to use. My next detector was used from criagslist. Figured let someone else take the hit for buying a new unit. You will find many more sweet coins. As has been sad before its all about location... Location.... Location!

Yea, surprisingly it works very nicely!
It does have some problems with Discrimination.. it picks up iron occasionally when it's at 12 o'clock.

The best part is I found this stuff right outside my house!
It use to be an old chicken and corn farm back in the 30s, and I also checked historical maps :)

Congrats on your first silver. Glad you were able to get out! Raining on the se corner of MI now.

I got out really early at about 10 am, most of the snow is melted in West MI, I just came inside to look outside, and it was raining! Got in just in time to inspect my new treasures :)

Like ya'll I started with an El Cheapo Treasure Cove TC1023, it paid for itself in 60 days and then I bought a slightly use Fisher F4 with the DD coil. It paid for itself in a few months and now I swing the F75LTD SE or as some say a F75LTD2. I was lucky to find 2 clad infested sites that gave produced about $500 in clad. One of the sites is cleaned out and now after 3 years the other site is still producing, but noit like it used to. It was so clad infested that I didn't dig the target unless it rang in as a quarter for many hunts. I hit it twice this years already and pulled $17.70, too bad I have to go back to work today.

I need to find another virgin site like those two. Good Luck & Happy Hunting.

My second detector was a used F4 also. I got very good with it.. I use my vaquero now but the F4 has its place.. When at a park or very very trash area ( camp ground) or any place there are multiple targets every square foot. I like to use the f4. The vdi and multiple tone is much faster at finding targets than the disc knob on the V.

Nothing like that first silver- Congrats!! Hope there's many more in your future!

Big congrats on your first silver. I'm sorry to say, you are now hooked for good on this hobby.

Congrats on your first silver!

Most of us here remember that day well, and hopefully you will too... the appearance of that shiny little coin, unlike all of the others, in a freshly dug hole.

Well done sir.

Wow that's a lot of clad you got there!!
What's the oldest one in either of those photos?

Congrats! Did you do a happy dance on the silver?

I didn't even know it was silver until I lightly ran it over some water!

But yes.. I guess you could say I did the happy dance.. Haha!

1932 Washington quarter that was 8.5 to 9 inches down in the ground. It was a good signal, but not repeatable in all directions. Sometimes you just need to dig those somewhat iffy signals.

My 1st season I pulled about 26 silvers but mainly hunted parks, schools, and other public lands in a 3 county area. A majority of the silvers came from the few permissions I hunted in town.

That's sweet!
I got a few places i'm going to for metal detecting, 1 is in the woods next to an old Fire Department.
And another is 7 acres of farm land!! "lots of detecting there :D"
