I still can't believe it.
I have always wanted to dig one of the elusive pelicans.
Finaly! Today was my day :hello2:
I took a much needed detecting trip today to one of my favorite spots for CW and Colonial goodies.
I got an early start to beat the heat that is almost unbearable by mid afternoon.
Normally, this is our down season here due to venomous snakes, ticks and yes, the heat.
I have been watching every one post all these great finds, and it was just eating at me to get out myself.
Most of our good fields are under crop, so I had to knock on doors to gain some permission.
I stopped at a farm and noticed the field had been freshly cut for hay.
The farmer was very nice, and he directed me to a section of the field where pottery shards appeared after a good plow.
I immediately started digging iron and a mid 1800's civilian buttons. Then another and another.
It just felt real good to get out again. Gotta Love the Minelab ETRAC!
I missed this target a few years ago with my old machine.

Now, It's back to baby duty :D

Mike, that is one super find of a button there... no complaints about the indians either. When you do get out these days you sure make it count! Look forward to meeting up with you soon.
Hey Vance!

It was dug where we were speaking of east.
It's dryer than a popcorn fart in those fields right now. We need rain.
Give me a call

Thank you guys for the votes.
The button now sits proudly, atop a fluffy cotton matt under glass.

After seeing that thing cleaned up, you got my Banner vote
Thanks Guy.
When it folded over in that plug I couldn't believe my eyes.
To be the second one to touch that button in all those years, was just amazing to me.

I just got a reply from my friend, William Leigh who commented:

Hello and Congratulations!
Yes, The button back mark is scarcer than than just the NY markings on the others.
Continued success, and thanks for the link to the Kids Treasure Pit pics. Wish they had this at 4-H camp when I went.

That is the feeling I get digging a meager General Staff button ,in NJ . U took some pokes about the cleaning of the button vs. taking care of a baby ::) hilarious ;D vote is in :icon_thumleft: Louisiana Pelican CS button , banner find !!! Congrats 4-H

Please do!

That's a great find, 4-H, ESPECIALLY for North Carolina! :headbang: :icon_thumleft: :wink  Congrats buddy. I've been going out nearly everyday in this heat for the past 2 months and anyone brave enough to do the same deserves to be rewarded with a GREAT find! CONGRATS buddy :headbang: :headbang:

P.S.--I agree about the dirt being "Dry as a popcorn Fart" :D :D :D The dirt IS SOOOO Dry here....we're only hearing probably 50% of the targets....there's hardly ANY conductivity its so dry >:( :P If it were to Rain one good, hard time, we'd probably be able to find another Hampton Military Academy button at this new site were on :dontknow: Oh well, what you gonna do.....

It's not every day I find buttons like that...In a yard, of all places :dontknow:

Congrats on the banner 4-H.. I saw your post about the kid detectorists. That is great stuff man. Wouldn't be too surprised to find something like that in a yard

Congrats on a well deserved spot on the banner Mike! :icon_thumright:

Congrats Mike! Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy!
If I'm not mistaken this is your 2nd banner? :D

Congrats on a well deserved Banner Mike. That button is what dreams are made of (for relic hunters anyway). HH, Quindy.

W :o W!! The Louisiana Pelican button sure looks great up there on the banner. It make me feel proud to see something good about LA right now, despite what we're going through with the oil crisis.

 RR
