Not unfortunate.
Holed coins are very cool to find. Sort of a personal touch to them.
This one looks like it was repurposed for a button.

What's cool about having the holes is that somebody worked with that coin putting holes into it before my time. I spent two hours searching the location that i found this coin today but no luck.

Sweet find! That's a braided hair large cent. I think they also made 1/2 cents that year as well...the back will say either "half cent" or "one cent" in the middle of the coin. Best way to clean old copper coins is to rub the dirt off with a toothpick. Takes some work, but it will get the dirt off and won't damage the coin. The side of the coin you posted looks to be in pretty good shape, hopefully you'll be able to get the back of it cleaned enough to ID it.

Very interesting old copper

Now that's a keeper and to be your first??? Very awesome!!! :occasion14:

Very nice...two for one. Stick with the hobby because it appears that Lady Luck is on your side. Congrats to you Mister.

Sweet job Randy,, a lot of guys go a few years without finding their first Large Cent or Button / Coin. You did really well.
You can gently clean the coin with a wooden toothpick.
Congratulations
