10.png10a.pngFinally got out today with my son and was not expecting a 1915 $10 gold Indian. We had been hunting for about 1 1/2 hrs. and my son was in the truck taking a break and I moved to a spot on the back side of the church and started finding 3 back to back wheat pennies. Than a old great seal button than the gold hit. I didn't know it was a gold coin and thought it was a piece of trash in the side of the hole so I used my digger to pop it out and scratched the obverse.(rooky mistake) Lesson learned to go easy on all good solid targets no matter what they read. I was so excited I ran for the truck to show my son and realized I was dragging my pinpointer the entire way. I should have slowed down and videoed the find but we just never find stuff like that. My son got back out swinging but didn't find much but a US screw back button and a few bullet casings. This is one hunt I will never forget.

I was using my AT Gold and it rang up 76/77. Thanks

Because it was damaged, I sold it.

Value did not get killed by the scratch... this one runs $725 in heavily worn condition and say, $750 in no problems XF condition like this would have been. So you probably knocked about $25 off the value of the coin (and kept the other $700). What an amazing dig and still a magnificent coin - congratulations on an epic find!

Amazing find! Congratulations on your beautiful Ten dollar GOLD coin! Even a scratch could not diminish the value of a find like that in my books! It's so far over the top monetary value alone means little!!!

So how do you know how much the scratch affects the value? I have yet to see anything in the coin books that speak to this.

I always cringe when I watch a you-tube video showing a guy digging up coins with a shovel, then rubbing the sandy clay off to see the date!
Only takes once and you will forever be more careful.

Wonderful find on the gold coin and bummer on the scratch. I got in a hurry at a local park and scratched a dime but thank goodness it was just clad.

So sick!! Maybe the most beautiful US coin ever minted in my opinion. So jealous!! Congrats!! Did you get it on the AT Pro? What did it ring in at??

It sold on Ebay for $670 so the scratch took off about $40

You seriously sold the find of all our lifetimes on eBay? I would have given more than that for it! But no way I could have sold it if I dug it!

Exactly! Congrats on the great find..and the extra windfall of cash, but I could never sell a banner find...hence the term..."finders keepers"!....ddf

the item number was 152183638867 and you will have to search sold items to find it. tried copying link but wouldn't work

Can you send a link to the sold listing?
I would be interested in seeing how you listed it.
Congrats on a fantastic find!

Didn't want to sell it but I have twin daughters off to college at the end of August and was strapped for cash for deposits and books. Hope my next great find I wont have to part with it.

Thanks,
Love the way you listed that.
I like the two columned list.
I have to figure out how to do that, it looks very professional.
Happy digging and once again, congrats on an amazing find!
