My first gold coin, and it only took 22 years………

I just spent a couple of days trudging around an old Air Force friends property south of Greenville, SC. It’s always produced some good finds. Last week I stopped by on my way home from a trip, and he gave me an arrowhead he found about 10 feet from where I was digging last time I was there. I took a couple of days off to look for arrowheads, but still took my Eagle II with me. After a day of arrowhead hunting, I had a couple of nice ones and a pocket full of pieces. Yesterday I started out looking for arrowheads, and then started swinging the detector around 10am. Even though the temperature was 90°+, I trudged on, and am glad I did. After 22+ years of treasure hunting, my first gold coin!!

An 1854 $1 piece. It’s beat up, bent, dented, scratched and has seen better days, but it’s still a beauty to me!! The 1853 Quarter looks like it had been in a fire.

Amazing find! Congrats on the gold dollar. Been doing this 40 years... No silver dollar or gold dollar to show for it! Congrats again on a rare find.

Congrats on the Gold coin and the seated quarter. Nice shoe buckle frame as well. The dog piece looks like an old watch fob with the slot broken off.

Steve, I was thinking the same thing about the dog piece. It's broken at the top, and looks like it was a fob.

Huge congrats on your first gold coin!! Still waiting for #1 after 25 years. Banner vote is in!

I was using the Eagle II, and it was going crazy because there were so many targets. Those 11 pieces were from a pile of 100+ items that I found.

I always wonder why more of these little beauties are not found, they are sure small enough to lose through a tiny hole in the pocket. And the denomination is small enough that change could be easily give back for a purchase. Or was it that people in the east did not carry them much?

One reason is the dollar coin rings up like a pull tab

Dented bent but beautiful congrats

Oh yeaaaahhhhh!!!
How often do we see a Gold Coin?
Great hunt , congrats on the seated
I'm voting banner.

Excellent! Congratulations on a rare find indeed. I've been hunting for forty years and still haven't turned up a gold coin and due to health reasons my chance of finding one is getting less likely due to having to about give up land detecting. But I'm still water hunting so there's still a chance. It will remain on my bucket list. Voting banner for sure

Banner for sure

Congrats on the gold!

Congrats ! I remember my first and only one. So I know the feeling.

I might as well find a gold coin myself, seems to be the popular thing to do this summer....
Congrats on breaking the 22 year gold coin slump!

Great finds. Congrats. A gold coin is on everyone's bucket list.

love it ( if it is too bent I'll take it)

if I have to wait 22 years I will be dead
