Short hunt bact to where I had found the nice button a couple days ago. I had dug the usual amount of shotgun brass and run across this pretty cool buckle. I was noticing after a close inspection that the detailing must have been hand done since it is not exact anywhere. I wish the buckle had all of its parts but I suppose that is rare in some of this Virginia soil. This is new to me, so you guys/gals would know more about this than I do. I just knew I had dug my first buckle and was very happy. :)

Thanks for looking!!

Ya' know I love buckles!:love10: That one is very nice and looks really old as well. Hopefully a buckle specialist can provide details and a date. Well done on the recovery too. Those things have to be fragile and easy to break. Congratulations!:headbang:

Congrats on the late 1700s buckle

Nice buckle. Mid 18th century colonial shoe buckle.

I like it! Congrats!

I dug a really sweet smaller old buckle that just crumbled on the way home. Broke my heart.
Congrats to you on a really nice find.

Very nice buckle!

Thanks sugarquarz...quite a job dodging inbetween the buck brush for this one..take a step, swing, tangle, jerk coil, stumble...but just knew this particular area is holding a few keepers...if not injuring one self working it...

Congrats to you on a really nice find.

Appreciate it against the wind....I do hope this one will at least stay in its present state...I'm going to have to read up on preservation of my finds....
Have you ever used the Elmers and water? Firstly baking all moisture out...then applying the 50-50 mixture...any EASY ways? I'm all for simplicity...
