Short hunt bact to where I had found the nice button a couple days ago. I had dug the usual amount of shotgun brass and run across this pretty cool buckle. I was noticing after a close inspection that the detailing must have been hand done since it is not exact anywhere. I wish the buckle had all of its parts but I suppose that is rare in some of this Virginia soil. This is new to me, so you guys/gals would know more about this than I do. I just knew I had dug my first buckle and was very happy. :)

Thanks for looking!!

Very nice recovery on the buckle and understand all too well what thick undergrowth does to a site.

Thinking the first one on the page for site clearing if one wins the Powerball. :)

Thanks pepperj....that's one cool machine...have seen similar around. This area I'm hunting is just in the front of a fairly steep mule face and then the lead flattens out big-time and then proceeds to the bottom land. But the problem here is in a lot of the area there are big rocks scattered about, in some places 2/3 rock...that's where the biggest part of the buck brush is. Otherwise fairly clear woods...

Let me know I’m 15 mins away from Madisonville.

P.S. Do the in laws have some old ground? Hehe

Thanks Truth...will have to see what I can find for a permission...I lived down there myself back in the early70's....N.O. area has lots of History there...not too sure if I can find some ground to hunt or not...that is with some age to it..Thanks again..PM sent...

I have one permission (900 acres) and the problem is along the field edges, the Prickly Ash is growing which is encroaching on the detecting sites. I have permissions that the site is totally overgrown with sucker trees that grow up on fertile lands that haven't been farmed for decades. It turns into a undetectable canopy of heavy buck brush, makes for a hard days detecting and recoveries.
Then again making just one recovery as yours takes the work out of the equation and turns it into joy once again.

dang pepperj....900 acres is a Sweet permission for sure. Sounds to be rough though...hey Man, here's to hoping the land owners get it cleaned up some so it would be much much easier. :occasion14:

It seems like I can never find a buckle no matter how long I look for! Congrats!

Thanks Luke...you being from the Maryland area I'd say you will get yours soon. Took me a year for this one....hey, good luck to you on your next trip out.

''I wish the buckle had all of its parts''

I laughed at that part, as most would be happy with a complete frame of that type.

That's the funny thing about detecting we are never satisfied.

Anyways congrats on your first mid-18th C Shoe Buckle.

Not really a uncommon off the cuff response about certain finds....yeah, at times in life no matter what we are doing we sometimes have it in us to "wish" for more...hey we can dream and hope...no big thing either way. Thanks for the Congrats on the Buckle.
