Well got out for a 4 day hunt with the Iron Bros. and my first hunts of the year. The weather was on average 3 degrees C and windy. It actually snowed on our last day....
I'll skip the other details of the hunt as IP went thru them already...
My first target was a 1700's french cross and then the detecting gods pulled a fast one on me with this good luck medal...well the medal is over 100 years old and seemed to be out of place at the colonial sites, the same medal was posted last year on this forum.
Group finds include musketballs, buckles, thimbles, flint, pipe stems, a load of buttons, crotal bell, 22 copper coins from Geo II to 1816... I did manage a silver everyday of the hunt however they were only from 1880 to 1904...
The (British Navy Officer button Circa. 1787-1795) made my day and thought that was my only military of the hunt, however when cleaning up a pewter button that was found on the last day, I noticed a crown and the detail is bad, but I believe it is a RP button (Royal Provincals).

Well we're starting to look at getting out again. You should come over for a day trip. Long days so we could hunt all the first day, and you could swing part of the 2nd and take off. That's like 2 full days when you compare it to the Fall when it gets dark early.

Geeeee, IP actually had a spot that he didn't clean out? Must have been too recent for his tastes...19th century or something. ::)
Great cluster of some sweet recoveries!

Two places had been plowed so they were worth going back to, and the other sites we found. Most places we hunt aren't big so they get cleaned out pretty quick, so when the Patriot and others pay a visit the best chance for success to to go scouting for new sites. There's a risk to doing this, and we've had some pretty big fails, but when it works out it's usually pretty good. The Patriot's previous hunt was quite a bit better so I guess this one was his payback.

Awesome finds guys, well done :)

May you have many more like that!

No matter what, it seems like the best thing you have always done is research. Can't always get a hit, but you sure do your homework based on what I see. Of course having a place plowed doesn't hurt either! You gents always do well and I gets me fired up to do library digging as well as the dirt digging!

Yeah, I can't say enough about research....amazing what you can get from the internet, libraries, historians, elderly people and many other sources...then there's the leg work...I've seen myself looking for a site in a field about the size of a football field and luck out and find a 20x20 site.... many factors but research is where it starts!
