I went to the woods hunting behind a old chuch. this place dates back to 1830. I have hunted this place before and have turned up seated coins, and barbers. But today was my best ever. After being there around a hour Iget a iffy signal jumping from foil to coil so since I wasn't finding much trash I decided to dig it. I had a real hard time finding this thing. It was my first ever 3 cent silver peice. I could not beleive how small this thing is. So after getting settle down I started hunting again. I hunted for maybe 2 more hours ad I get a big scream on the DfX saying 97 and dollar. So I dug a big plug and about 6 inches down I saw silver man was I excited. I could see a person on it I early p____ myself. I got home and put my coins in some water and let them soaked for a couple of hours. I got out a old brush and gentle remove the dirt. I couple not beleive I found a seated dollar but on the back of it it says Trade Dollar it is a 1873 I can not find a mint mark on it. The 3 cent silver as far as I can tell is a 1853. I can say this is the best day of my detecting years. Sorry for only 1 pic right now I must have taken 30 pictures of these coins and I can only get 1 to turn out. Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope this pic is good for you to see them. The dollar has a lot of scratches on it but stll I will take it.....Matt

Awesome digs man. I want a trade dollar bad but don;t really expect to find one. You should be proud of that BIG silver!

I too had trouble with a 3ct before. When i found my first 3 cent piece i almost gave up on it. I kept losing the signal in the hole so i just started scooping dirt with my hands and running it over the coil.

:hello2: :hello2:

Great Big Silver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An little bitty silver !!!!!!!!!!!!!

BANNER ON THE SILVER TRADE DOLLAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give us a close up !!

VERY COOL! I would love to find either one of those elusive coins. You might get more banner votes with a better picture - get a friend's digital camera. Congrats again!

Thanks for all the replies. I have try to take more pics for no good one yet. I am ready to throw this camera away and try to get some money up to buy another one. I have no idea what a chop mark is I want to take it to a coin dealer to make sure it is real. As I ave heard that they are a coin that has been copy a lot in China. Hope I can get it checked out this week end. Will let everyone know what I find out......Matt

No doubt it is the real thing brother. Awesome finds. :notworthy:

Like IP said, odds of that being the real thing skyrocketed since you hauled out the lil coin too in same area.

I can't wait to see the final pics!

But stranger things have happened so I always reserve final judgement to when the closer, clearer pictures go up. If the area gave up a lot of modern finds too the older coins really don't mean much. All that said, the forum was due for a real Trade Dollar! We'll see what happens.

Terrific trade dollar and indeed a Banner find :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

I'd say banner, please do get a better pic up. If you cannot find a good camera for it (I use a pretty expensive DSLR, you may not want to fork $$$ just to take pictures of coins) go to fed ex office (or whatever they call kinkos these days) and use a scanner.
