Some old and rare spirits are now worth big bucks. Finest & Rarest Vintage Spirits, Wines and Liqueurs Is this one of them?

I cannot find any information or date on this vintage sealed corktop liqueur.

It appears to say Monastine Liqueur 80 proof bottled by NATIONAL DISTILLERY.

On the bottom small label it says imported by Kraus Bros & Co Inc. New York, N.Y.

Embossed on the back NATIONAL DISTILLERY KRASNE BREZNO CZECHO-SLOVAKIA

Yea but you may be causing unnecessary aggravation to others, like Surf did, if the image is too large.

Hey Bigcypress,

I just posted some images on your Wilson, That's All! thread that I was unable to use the site's uploader, "Advanced" feature. It kept giving me error messages, so I used the image brackets, I hope it's not too large, but it was relevant...

Thanks for helping me with the TNet image handling ways. I'll endeavor to use the "Advanced" feature more in the future. I appreciate you taking the time to help. If you see me causing huge screenitis in the future, please call me out.

I do see what you mean, as I was just looking at someone's album photos, and they were several times life-size, and difficult to view.

"Monastine" I believe is a brand name. I don't know how the Czechs got ahold of it. There has long been a "piratical" element in the liquor biz...

I think it only happens with an unusually large image. Its best not to post any images larger than the average computer screen unless you use the Go Advanced or Insert Image method.

Dont misunderstand... your images and your help is very much appreciated and enjoyed. I hope TN will solve these errors and computer glitches. But I dont think TN is interested in changing anything and I will tell you if I see a problem. Thanks..

Maybe this is a cheap pirated French Liqueur and has little value.

Thanks, Bigcypress,

I have been using that Insert Image button, and did with the above Pirate key, but was unable to use it for the "Wilson, That's All" sheet music image I posted in the other thread. Ironically, I was unable to use it to insert the little luddite image that follows... I'm a bit of a computer luddite and appreciate learning the "hows" & "wherefores."

I think you are one of the few people, worldwide, that may have an unopened bottle of Monastine. Where would one go to have a taste of Monastine, these days?

If it were mine, I'd contact those Finest & Rarest dudes. It may be too small a bottle for them, but I think it'd be right up their alley. Failing that, I'd put it at electronic auction and write a compelling description about the "Lost Liqueur" not tasted since the War. Thirsty gourmands will respond, I believe...

LOL The seal is good too. I will write to them. Sounds like my best bet because eBay no longer allows sales of booze.

I found 2 other neat old sealed miniature cork top bottles from France. Another Kraus Bros import and a Bordeaux. Ill post tommorrow. Maybe I can sell all 3 together. I wonder what years the Kraus Bros operated out of New York?.

Heres a quick pic. I need to take better pics in the daylight. The Bordeaux glass bottle has some bubbles at the neck and they are all sealed tight although there was some evaporation. The bottle on the right is the other Kraus Bros import.

Monastine is actually a Mediterannean liqueur, really herbal and spicy, close to chartreuse but not quite as bitter. You can occasionally find the Italian versions of it as Monasterium. The bottles are really cool! The armagnac bottle on the right is late Nouveau-Mid Deco period, possibly as late as 1950, but more likely 1930s.

Thanks for your help. Yes it has an Art Deco look to it. I have better pics here. Imported by Kraus Bros. There is a French Brevete patent date on the cap but I cant read it. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/359950-grard-armagrac.html

A Bordeaux here http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/359945-bordeaux-date-value.html
