1848 1 cent piece. foreign object strike? Any thoughts?

This is one of my favorite pieces to date. It is a 1848 1 cent piece I received from my grandfathers estate there appears to have been a foreign object on it when it was struck. There is an obvious indentation on the face and on the obverse is an obvious bulge.

Edit. It was pointed out to me that the damage was produced after it was minted.

Sorry to say somebody just hit it with a punch or something similar. It couldn't have happened during striking with the bulge out the reverse. When a coin is struck, it is firmly in the dies, if something struck the obverse the reverse die would have kept it from bulging out the reverse.

That makes cents, sorry I couldn't help myself there. That makes sense thank you I am a bit embarrassed I did not realize that before posting this. If nothing else I will keep this as a reminder that I don't know as much as I think I do.
