Treasure is found in many forms. Today it was a mink on the side of the road. This is my 8th roadkill this season. The rest were 1 gray fox, 2 fisher, 3 raccoons, and one opossum. I had planned on skinning the mink to sell with the others, but my wife wants to get it mounted. The rest of the fur will hopefully pay half the price of a CZ-21. One hobby, paying for the other. :headbang:

I realize many folks here may be sensitive to the sight of a dead animal, but realize I'm utilizing an already dead roadkill that would be wasted otherwise. If it wasn't for my wife asking to mount it, I would expect somewhere around $20-25 for the pelt at the auction.

So maybe I should post my great find of aluminum beers cans that I found in the woods? Again, just because it's worth something doesn't make it treasure.

Treasure - a concentration of riches, often one which is considered lost or forgotten until being rediscovered.

Treasure is in the eye of the beholder dude.

"Anyone who abuses animals for their cheap thrills"? OK so when i shoot coyotes with severe mange and barely making it through the winter my rifle is that abusing them? no im putting it out of its misery and as for cheap thrills do you think us hunters have in our mind "hmmm lets see what we can make suffer today..." NO! we use the animal whether if its for meat or their hides. when i sell that coyotes hide sure its for financial gain but im not just shooting and dumping the body and either is the person who posted this. this is my coyote i shot and i utilized what i could and made a hat with it and i wear that hat everywhere during the winter.

Now that is an awesome hat! I always wanted to make a fox one like that.

I'll be sure to pass that along to my 6 year old niece, who cried when she saw the photo. What's next, some graphic photos of the deer you ran down with your SUV? Sorry, but just because you can make money off of it doesn't classify it as "treasure".

To quote SSgt Hulka from the movie STRIPES: "Lighten up, Francis."

They were illegal because some lowlife placed them in the Scituate Reservoir. The traps were legal to own, so I wasn't in possession of anything illegal.

As for the financial gain nonsense, I never stated that I sold them. I destroyed them and threw them in the trash.

Rhode Island § 20-13-16. Harassment of hunters, trappers, and fishers prohibited

Why was o.p. mink dead? Is overdriving headlamps a crime if he died from it and who,s trying to stop it by whining at trappers?

"a) No person shall obstruct or interfere with the LAWFUL taking of wildlife by another person at the location where the activity is taking place with intent to prevent the LAWFUL taking."

The law doesn't protect POACHERS. Get your facts straight.

The law protects poachers till proven poachers by the law and or its agents. Present your case and defend yourself from appearing a hindrance to law enforcement by offering a badge number. Poaching involves animals. Often referred to as game. Fish are fish and when poached involve hot water. How were the traps determined to be minnow traps and who put them there? Were biological surveys being conducted? A copy of the legal/non edited report will suffice. Unless you went rouge vigilante and instead of having law intervene and apprehend "poachers" of fish you just encouraged better "poaching" techniques. A , your honor it was my civic duty to impersonate an officer defense,/ or are you an officer? Found minnow trapping in regulations, crab mentioned and guessing crawdad a crustacean.Little mention of them though or traps sizes ect. allowed or any mention of the reservoir being off limits. So I can see if you found a vague law mentioned outside regulations to vent your fury with how you might justify it, but I,m not sure what court would find till police report reviewed.

The smell may be bad but I remember getting $6.00 apiece, and harvested 200 for a profit of $1200. By the way, this is the time of the year that the mating season begins and a lot of skunks get killed on the roads.

I just may have found a way to get people to leave me alone when I'm detecting!!! A little skunk cologne! Lol!
TooManyHobbies--bet that mink never thought he'd be this famous!

I have pictures with both my kids posing with me after hunting deer, game birds, fish, etc. since they could walk. My kids understand and respect what it means to hunt/fish and kill. We don't "protect" our children with the fantasy that meat comes from the grocery store.

Don't protect your 6 year old, teach her, prepare her, give her the confidence she needs and deserved from a young age. A dead wild animal should not make a 6 year old cry.

Last year I started saving all the lead I found - I used to throw it away. I think it was over $8 at the scrap yard at the end of the year.

So it used to not be treasure to me, but now it is. I'm getting so confused that I think I am going to cry.

haha i knew there would be some lil weasel complainin ... get it... lil weasel...funny

If you realized that fact, why post a photo of a dead animal here? This photo needs to be taken down ASAP. Picking up roadkill has NOTHING to do with treasure hunting at all.

I thought you said you were done. If you're not a cop then you're a thief ! It's NOT your job to STEAL traps from anyone including "alleged" poachers. What makes you busy body types think it's ok for them to take it upon themselves to do this crap anyway.... If you are not the police and the traps were, in fact, there illegally you broke the law yourself by removing evidence. In fact how do you know for sure those traps weren't put there by Fish & Game in the course of some study they might be doing ? You're just one of those people who feels the need to force yourself on the rest of us.. Mind your own damn business ! And if you simply don't have it in you to follow the old "live & let live" policy then call a real cop and report the traps. You had ZERO right to touch them.

Is this even a serious comment ? YOU illegally possessed them because they were NOT yours. You stole them. Whether they were there illegally or not is for a judge to decide, not you. You stole them and then you destroyed evidence. Nothing more. You're worse than whoever put them there. Careful you don't fall off that high horse...

Mink slippers!!! Awesome find. I'm glad someone is making use of it.

Thanks all for the great comments. Believe it or not, I found the other slipper this morning. About five miles from my house (and 25 miles from the first mink), there lay another perfect mink on the edge of the road. Two mink in two days, awesome. They are moving right now because of breeding season. I find males mostly at this time of year. I wish I could catch them as frequently as I pick them up on the roads. (sorry, no pic of this one, my wife took my camera)

MsBeep, I can send you all the cologne you could handle. One oz. bottle will last you just about forever. ;o) I have about 30 or so skunks that will be "milked" of essence first chance I get.

Offended by a pic of a road killed mink...please tell me you were just kidding...sad, very sad...if you looked at my hunting photo albums, you would pass out on the spot...Im not going to say what I really want to say.

TMH--thanks for the offer but there's enough dead ones on the road ways, I could probably scoop one up!
