mini telescope? ??

Found this the other day..the lens was in one hole the body about ten feet away. .Didn't know they went together till I cleaned them up this morning. ..Glad I didn't throw away the body...Anyone know about this? Year? Was it military? I have been hunting this church yard that was occupied by the British during the winter of 1777....found lots of flat buttons, king George coppers. What you guys think? Any suggestions would be great. ..thanks in advance.

It looks like it did..but did not find it..it has a grove for it like the other side.

Maybe part of a monocular , but it would have had to have a second lens in a movable piece to adjust the focus.
Here is a monocular on a walking stick.

It looks like the barrel of a monocular like Taz posted. Yours is missing the focusing tube and lens that would go in the small end.
