Re: Minelab is not the ONLY, Multi-Frequency Metal Detector. So is White's
Sorry, Penny, the main participant below is a Whites engineer. The patent is owned by Whites. You can look it up if you wish online via the patent office.
And are you saying that everyone should just own ONE detector and just learn that ONE detector? Seems time wasting to me since one detector will work fine in one situation or location but be a waste of time in the next, while another detector will work fine in that next location. Makes a big difference.
And no, people arent necessarily looking for that next perfect detector. They are looking for the detector that THEY like and can work with and use to ITS best ability. Like finding the right size in shoes. I have owned a number of detectors. Several only for a couple of weeks. Why? Because there were features or other reasons that made them unsuitable for ME. The weight was wrong, or it had features that I did not like. Some things like that make themselves evident right away or in a short time. What you seem to be saying is that detectorists should IGNORE their dislikes in order to learn that ONE detector before getting another.
So I guess I should get rid of my Excaliber so I can learn my Etrac? Makes sense except I cant use my Etrac in the water. And I guess by your reasoning I should not have bought my Whites PI Pro since I already have a water machine in the Excal...except that the PI Pro is a PI machine and is very useful in areas that a PI will shine but the excal doesnt do as well..such as in heavy black sand.
Oh, and then I shouldnt have my TM 900 either....but it, as a 2 box has its own usefullness in locations and areas where I am searching for items far deeper than any of my other detectors. OH, and I guess I should not have bought my Xterra 705 since I have the Etrac. Except that the XT 705 is an excellent Gold machine..and works well in areas that the Etrac wont as well.
See, buying and having multiple detectors means having versatility. But if we all went by your reasoning, we would all just buy one and keep it whether we liked it or not, just so we could learn it to whatever standard I guess you would think we should?
No thanks. I will keep my multiples of detectors. I like them. I like having my options. And I dont mind buying and selling detectors so I can try newer or different ones. Each to his own. Will I be buying another detector any time soon. OF COURSE. Thats another fun aspect of this hobby. Will I selll any of those I have now. I dont know. I doubt it. Because I have found the ones I like. They work for me..I like them...ALL of them. NOT just one.
