Military medal?

Went to an old local park, found a couple of wheats and what looks to be a military medal. image.jpgimage.jpg

Well, the Army started awarding the GCM in 1941 or '42, and the AF awarded it's own starting in 1963 (prior to this the AF issued Army GCM's from 1947 until '63). The only real difference between the Army and Air Force varieties is the ribbon. So your find could be as old as 72 years or so.

Thank you for all the info guys, sure wish a name was on the back so I could return this to one of our heroes or the family.
 

cool find. I can never figure out how medals become lost
