Military Medal / Badge??

Hey all, I found this dirt fishing an 1880s homestead in Deadwood South Dakota and have yet been able to identify it. Any help is greatly appreciated. It has USA on top of a flying eagle that is above a shield with stripes and 6 stars. Two people stand on either side of shield also. Some writing on scroll below and I'm guessing a wreath around outer edge? About the size of a half dollar. Thanks!
