This little guy is a little bigger than a quarter and seems to be made of brass or bronze. The little square nut on the back threads onto a stud. I know I have seen something simmilar but am drawing a blank. On this same hunt I found a 43 war nickel wrapped in thick foil.

This is so cool. Thank you guys for adding so much to our hobby. Is this the type of find I should clean/polish or just leave as is?

I'd try to just get the dirt off of it, it should have a nice patina under there. It's brass, and would probably shine up really nicely, but that might take away from the value.
