Dear Gold, I read somewhere that most rivers and creeks in Mich. have some amount of Gold but hard to find the source. Check them out. I will too, someday, in the U. P. Good Luck. JB/Waterbug

I have also heard that as well.
I do have my Gold Pan and will be looking.

Thanks, and Good Luck to you as well.

There is lots of old places by Detroit. SASQUASH

Most Gold in Michigan would most likely have been transported there by galciers from the North, as there is not really any major mining in Michigan, but there is in Ontario and all provinces that contain the geological formation known as the Canadian shield. (Grade 10 geology came in useful!)
(I cant recal Michigans gold mining status so maybe I am incorrect)

I am mostly looking for Treasure Cache areas.
I do know that most Ghost Towns and old Farms are great places to look.
Just as I found a bell on a real old farm land and other items which are worth pretty good cash.
I am looking for places like old towns that were left behind or where old barns stood etc.
I live in the Western Michigan area on the shores of lake michigan. I have found treasures on the
beach such as old coins etc., but I would like to look on Private land that had buildings on it at one time.
I can pay a small fee to do this and would love to find a old ghost town in the woods of michigan.
Please e-mail me if you have land that has old buildings or foundations. also when I mean old I mean
before 1920's Thanks

Bull Hog! There was a area on the boarder of Wisconsin a few years ago that they found gold...and there is a river in Wisconsin that goes into Michigan that was a gold panning river..I have an old map where it was..and found information on it!That was back in history..And Wisconsin has gold in it's river too! Glassier? and more of the powder stuff..but it is still gold.I also have many other stories of gold found in Wisconsin and some stories of Michigan. Here is a place to go if it is still up there..But you have to go deep into the woods to find it..The Old Ford Company..I have pictures of that place is it ever cool. The water tower still was standing and there where Henry type ford parts still on the ground floor..Might find some interesting coins around there yet!Go to: www.LostTreasure Magazine.com and search their archived state treasure tales and Anthony Palante used to write and sell state treasure stories..they may have someone Else now though!Michigan has a lot of cool history and a lot of areas to hunt..Just becareful of the bears and the rattler snakes..There is a lot up there I know!! I almost walked into a nest just below a water fall area way up by the lake Michigan and did they make a lot of noise! Now thats Scarey!Move back very slowy and stay away beacuse it can be bad!
Good Luck!
Here is one other interesting fact....All copper mines have gold and it produces at least near to 20-40 percent of copper minnings cover expences. So if there is any copper mines up there it should also have gold too! Saw that on PBS show on copper minning!and there is more gold found oin our own oceans then there is for every square inch on earth and our those companies are trying to descover a way to get it out of the ocean and it's water...some of it is in the oceans water also!Saw that on a Science show with Allen alder!

If you are looking for old copper mines, go to Hancock, Mich. Between Hancock and Fort Wilkins you can find many old copper mines. Between Champion and Marquette, in the mountains there is an old gold mine. I grew up in Hancock, but I never searched for any copper. Give it a try.

in marquette county of michigan there is gold. north of ishpeming. they shut down the goldmine in the 90,s said it wasnt profitable enough ,i now a lot of people were getting hurt their.back in the 1890s or so there were like twelve mines in the area, again not real profitable. about 4 miles from where i lived the shut one down in the 30s . between this mine and my house live my grandfather. put in a new well and at about 17 ft. we hit the black sand then sone gold started to come out, i was young then my brother and i running around all excited my grandpa said to get back to work and get the well done. i know of a numger of streams ive seen gold dust in, while fishing, gold can be found in many of the streams in marquette county i guess also ontonagon county as well, i just got into metal detecting last year guess what my new hobbie is this year, i always talked about going panning just neyer happened. i bought a couple of pans, if i due well ill be buying some more stuff. one of the streams was real heavy with gold during the spring runoff. it will be my first place ill check
