Having a problem with my detector but it still can lock in on some shallow targets. Getting a new coil at some point. Found a Waltham watch that looks fairly old. Its gold plated. The stainless Steel back on it is amazingly spotless. No corrosion at all. Also found several clad coins, '44 wheat penny and this holed silver dime. 1872 Victoria.

Yes it is a long way from home. Maybe that's why they made jewelry out of it? I wasn't wearing my glasses so when it popped out I thought I had found my first Barber dime. Once I got back to the truck and looked at it with glasses and saw it was not I was disappointed. I flipped it over and saw 1872 and was happy again. That's oldest coin I've found so far by 4 years

Two very nice finds! (BTW For their older pocket watches Waltham kept detailed records of the serial numbers that can be researched online. These were accessed behind the rear dust cover.)

Nice recoveries, liking both of them. Waltham watches were a pretty good maker back in the day. Nice find on the Newfie dime-well traveled for sure.

Nice finds! That dime had a mintage of only 40,000 pieces. Those dated 1872 were struck at the Heaton mint under contract (H mintmark) for Newfoundland.
