We had an ice storm in January.

Winters are long this far north, and we had record snowfall.
Couldn't get around off road without a snowmobile until
April. Some of this wire was under 8 foot drifts. No one
could get at it.
January to May isn't over a year.
It was on my brothers property and he lives 400 miles
away.

I scrapped a car Thursday. I called the yard and was quoted $8/100lbs. When I was collecting my check I was pleasantly surprised to see the price had gone up to $8.25/100#.
Recently, it had been as low as $6/100#.

Not only have the prices dropped alot here but the scrap yard here stopped paying for appliances and tin. Now we have to haul everything about 200 miles to make a decent amount from the scrap.

If your brother runs stock, or farms, the wire "had to be removed due to the safety hazard it represented" You wouldn't want a $20,000 horse running into and being permanently scarred by a heavy piece of copper or steel wire.

Not the mention the hazards involved and potential lethal results of trying to bush hog that area.

You owe it to your brother to clean it up for him. Or maybe it would be better if he hired you for the cleanup, since the utility company doesn't seem to care. That way at least he paid to have it hauled, and didn't profit from the action, just got a safer environment.

Then when the utility company comes looking, he can ask for repayment for his losses since the utility was the cause.

Still only $125 a ton for tin here in the north TX area. Wonder why such a difference in price? Most other prices not that far off from your previous post.

But I think also the cans have to have the CA redemption value stamp on them dont they? Otherwise someone could load up in AZ and make a killing in CA.

It seems as though where I take my aluminum cans, the price never changes...$0.51 per lb. Anyone here in North Texas have a better return?

Last I saw Mansfield Metal just south of Ft Worth was paying .52 a lb, American Recycling in Ft Worth is .50 a lb. Not sure where you are at in N. Texas, but if you are up by the Red River there is a yard just west of Sherman on hwy 82, and I think they pay a little better than average.
