Mercs,wheats and Policeman in park today

Was going thru a nearby town today and saw an older looking park bordered by a stone wall. I'm fairly new to this area. Stopped and grabbed my detector. Always carry one in car. Nothing but new. I went to a low spot in the middle of the park that was approx. 20 yds wide 50 yds long first coin 43 merc. In all 1 folded silver wash. quarter 43 and 44 mercs 30, 36, 51, 52 wheats and 1 pair of official looking shoes standing in front of me. Town policeman. Turned out he just wanted to tell me his dad has a whites and detects all the time. Nice guy.

Very nice finds! Did you give the cop your phone # so his dad could call you? He could turn you on to some more hunting spots in the area if your new there.
 

nothing bugs me more than when a cop car or two show up
when I'm the only one in the area. who knows maybe i fit some profile.
i wonder how many times the plates on my truck have been ran threw the system

Sounds like you made some really great finds at that park! If,...or I should say when, you go back make sure to post what else you find. Add some photos for all of us to see if you can. I'm sure you can find that officer again if you wanted to at the local police station. If you did find him I would definately ask him about the other older parks in the area that he may know of. Think about it, if he's grown up there as a kid and he's still there.....well your a smart guy ;) I'm sure he'd fill you in on some good sites as he's "OK" with the detecting thing already, right :)

Yes! I have had that happen to me too! But ya know the Police are really cool guys and gals and they are just doing the job they were hired for. Next time wave and if they stop to talk be nice and let them talk for they just want to be sure your not doing something other then digging and picking.
The Police in my area are really cool...I would even offer them some coffee for all the hard work they do! Really I am not joking either! you could have a card made to give them so they know wh you are if they stop..They will appreciate your confidence and admire your truthfulness.Though if they did say move on....I have had that! don't fight, it won't work! and they will appreciate that too!Sometimes they are doing this for some other reason...Like they are in the process of some case and your sort of in thier way...of the veiw! So just think of it that way.
 

? ? Rod;? ?I'm pretty much ignorant about computers, and some people say, ( other things as well.) I have trouble surfing the internet. I once found myself talking to the national defense computer, and while trying to get back out it started flashing "MISSILES LAUNCHED"? Just kiddin. If i was told how to post pictures, perhaps i could pull it off.? HH
 

I and my hunting partner have had the Park Police pull up and check our permits. But they were very cool about it and stayed to talk for awhile. Talked about other old parks and even told of a detectorist that they had to to ticket. The guy was in an off limits park and just would not listen to the Police. I have ran into just one Park Police that just didn't like detectorists and was a jerk to us. Most are good folks just doing their job.
