Chess, love it, but the last time that I played it, I was check mated twice in three moves. sigh. Tee wanna play ?

Pore old Sam, we would start about 7:00 pm then finally at about 03:00 am he would let me win a game so that he could go to bed.

Don Jose de La Mancha

It has been over 20 years since I played chess....I use to play with my brilliant son...he use to kick my butt....now checkers I might have a chance with you or chinese checkers...love it....how about poker? Like I said I am no rocket scientist.

Ummm...
Did someone say poker?
Here is where I excel.
I know the odds of say, drawing to an inside straight, as opposed to an open ender, how many cards can beat me if I'm holding four towards a flush, etc.
I can't be beat. It's all about math: statistics and probabilities.
(Unless dumb luck kicks in...)

Best,
Scott

PS. As a matter of fact, I'm playing online poker right now. And winning.
Pokerstars.com
Has anyone heard of counting cards? From a 3 deck shue?

Easy to do when dealing with people sitting in front of you, but when online, you MUST know the odds....

Best,
Scott

Online poker for real money is illegal for Americans. I play for "play money."
Your bet...

Best,
Scott

Hmmm...
Just remember that a Smith and Wesson beats a Royal Flush. :laughing7:

My Best,
Scott

Shall we call it a draw and play another hand?

Best,
Scott

card counting --you bet -- remember one thing --the ratio of cards , 4 kings ,4 queens , 4 jacks and 4 10's ( 10 value or strong cards) vs 4 6's, 4 5's ,4 4's , 4 3's and 4 2's (weak cards) is exactly the same no matter how many decks of cards are in the shue *-- so once the "count" tips into your favor --more high value cards left in the shue than weak value ones the better your % is of getting a "high value" 20 or 21 count hand --a stand pat hand --since the house must hit a under 17 count hand , hands with a count lower than 17 is thought of a weak hand for a player to hold on unless the house has a 16 and thus has to hit it ( thus it has to get a 5,4,3,2 or A (counted as a 1) lower to avoid busting - thus 5 cards to not bust vs 8 that will but the house 6 to king) 1 1/3 vs 1 odds that the house will bust on a have to hit 16 *

to try to shut out card counters the house uses 6 decks and tries to short shue it , only using about 1/2 of the availible cards -- thus trying to cut off the card counters before they can get a sweet run going on a deck thats in their favor .

my method is to start at -2 count with a fresh "shue" , as 2 thru 6 comes out -- add plus +1 to your favor--as a 10 thru K comes out - minus -1 when the deck is in your favor play --when it is not do not play .- I have been asked to leave and not to come back by several gaming places. * if they "ask" you to leave do so but do not give them your name --just cash out and leave.

As a sidebar to the question of intelligence, does the increase of knowledge diminish the belief in God? Love?

No, not in and of itself.

I've heard that man is either smart or emotional. Never both.

Where did you ever hear that? Good Grief!

As an organization, Mensa is okay. I can assure you that the meetings do not consist of members patting each other on the back to celebrate how intelligent they are compared to most people. They are both playing, networking, and even working (gasp!) as a group. The nice thing about Mensa membership is that it will "open doors" to certain "opportunities" that are largely unavailable to non-members. Mensa has member rosters & a "type of" ID card, so all members can easily verify if you are Mensa or not. They hold regular meetings in most cities, so you always have a Mensa place to visit if you are traveling.

And last but not least, chicks love a man with a large... brain!

That is because if you surround yourself with smart people.....hopefully your knowledge will increase!

I'm pretty sure it has the opposite effect: Put a smart person with a dumb person (long enough), and the smart person will get progressively dumber!

Can an increase in knowlege diminish one's belief in God?

Depends on what kind of knowledge one's mind is filled with.

As for love, be careful, one of the bi-products of knowledge is arrogance.

Isn't there a difference between knowledge and intelligence? It doesn't really matter how intelligent you are if you don't know anything. And then that self-percieved intelligence could make you "think" you know everything, even the unknown existence of life after death. You don't know if it exists but you consider yourself intelligent and, if you don't believe, it must not be so. If you choose to believe, it must be so. No matter your IQ, you'll never have the answer. Hey, and I'm not a rocket scientist!
