I got my ACE 250, and my dad just got his whites prizm 4 today. We went to the grove by my house for maybe 2 hours. Had alot of hits, alot of them bouncing from coins to junk. So didnt dig those as i found its usually junk. Seems the SOLID hits were coins. I was only digging solid hits, and so was my dad. We found the following....

1969 dime
2002 dime
1995 nickel
2000 nickel
1986 quarter
1998 penny
1987 penny

Not bad for our 1st time out. Everything but 1 penny was dug.

What should i soak them in to clean them up? I dont have a tumbler yet.

nice finds it's great to hear a father - son are getting out to MD together i have some trips planed this summer for me- my dad :)

Sounds good and keep that relationship going. Metal detecting is a great hobby and hopefully it will keep you two close!

Thanks guys! We have always been pretty darn close. 27 years. :) He is really into it as well, and watching his DVD that came with it right now.

That's cool. This is the best hobby. Life is great.

Congratulations on the finds, I always use a tumbler so I couldn't tell you what you could soak them in to clean them up, maybe just some dishsoap & water.

Congratulations on finding a great hobby to share with your Dad. My grandfather introduced this addictive hobby to me and my father about 35 years ago, when I was a boy. I loved it then and I love it now. Now I'm lucky enough to hunt with my own 13 year old son, as well as my Dad when he is in town. As for cleaning, I wouldn't waste too much time on it until you have a tumbler. I hold all of my dirty clad coins in a large cup until I have enough to use the tumbler. Tumbling is quick and easy, and the coins are clean enough that you don't feel guilty putting them back into circulation. Some of the coins come out looking remarkably beautiful. My son keeps a collection of the commemorative "state" quarters that have been found with the detector, all layed out in a Whitman folder. These tumbler-cleaned clad quarters have beautiful tones to them, and we may even put them into a display case some day. One other note: you'd never want to tumble anything of real value. Good luck!

Nothing better than a good hunting buddy such as your dad. I bought a tumbler at W.Mart
for $20.00. I have used it hundreds of times with no problems. Fish aquarium rock does wonders,
with a drop of dish soap.

great first day out, let me give you a tip, some bouncing signals on the ace 250 turned out to be my best deepest finds, you can never fully trust the detector to tell you what is in the ground. I had a lot of targets that bounced from iron to coin and it turned out being a coin real close to iron. I used the ace 250 for about a year it was a good machine, just don't trust everything it tells you

Welcome to the forum!
That's a lot of finds for the first trip out for you guys. You picked a great hobby. Looking forward to reading your posts.

Welcome and thanks for sharing.

Great first time out. Now you have the fever.
