MDing and ham radio

Cool to see some other hams on here. I got my license in 2004, and advanced to a general class a few years later. I was quite active on both 2M and HF bands for a while, but have been off the air for some time now.

These days I'm more into repairing and restoring old radios.

Hello and welcome Jeremy. Seems there are a few of us HR type in here. I am quite active myself as it helps pass the extremely long and cold winters.

I am just a tech class now, i like to play on 2m. I picked up a new alinco dj-c7 ht brand new for half price and i use it with my dual band base antenna on the roof of my house. 500 milliwatts, it works good. I use my call sign on here because i know i'll be the only one using that particular name. I am saving for a new detector this spring then when i move back to the country i'll get my general class and pick up an icom 718 hopefully!

Nice to meet you LXT. Amazing what 500mW can do huh? Neat bands that we hamsters have access to.

And if you end up with a 718, I think you will really like it. The ONLY thing I would miss is the FM mode for the high end of 10 meters.

I run a whole pile of stuff, depending on what I'm going for.

I have attached a pic of the house and 2 of the trucks.

I drive over the road so it takes a minute to reply. Hey get a 706 mk 2 g. That does most everything. Of course they are a small fortune. Lol. I want an ic 718 cause i hear they are bulletproof and easy to use. The reviews on eham are all good.

Havent found out if anyone else here is a ham. I myself dont have any aluminum or copper up anymore that i can transmit or receive with.

The 706 is a very nice rig. It is getting a little long in the tooth and new DSP technology has improved, but it is still a very capable radio. I got into CW QRP fairly heavy and used a 703. I really liked it. Wish I had not sold it.

Now I run legal limit into massive aluminum forests LOL. Love me some DX either SSB or CW. And as you can tell, I do a lot of HF mobile. Cell phones do not work around here for a crud and 2 meters is limited. Most of the state lives on 80 meter SSB as a chat channel.

Sounds like you need some antennas!! Get back into the thick of it.

I have been a ham for a number of years, but am rather new at metal detecting. I believe that both of them go together quite well.

Problem in Wyoming is that there are very few hams and even fewer metal detectorists. In a more populated area though, I believe they would be a perfect compliment.

FINALLY! Someone from Michigan who is willing to admit they can't stay in one lane~

We see a Michigan plate with a blue haired 'ol lady driving with the left turn signal going for the past 10 miles and all the locals scatter. Some of them folks are worse when you get 'em on a golf cart in a mobile home park- holy terrors by golly.
