Today while trying out a new coil I found a area is never truly hunted out. I have a silver ring marked sterling with a nice stone. It had been in the ground a while as the solder point broke. Can anyone tell me the silver content of Sterling silver and when makers started putting the word sterling on silver? Im trying to see if this ring matches other jewelry I have found in the area. Thanks. sterling.webp

Hope this helps!
"Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The minimum millesimal fineness is 925.
In some countries, such as the United States, no national hallmark was ever adopted, although the city of Baltimore did maintain its own assay office between 1814-1830. The words "STERLING", "925", or "coin" were simply stamped into the piece. Because of this, some companies within the U.S., such as Tiffany and Gorham, adopted their own marking systems."

Yes K1 it is stamped sterling with out a makers mark. I too have found a pocket of old jewelry and makes me wonder how that much old stuff in one place got there in the first place.

I bought a 15 inch coil for my f75 and it is pulling out the goods. This is my third find in 3 hunts. I run a low sens 35, disc at 4(high Gain), 3 tones( nickles), and je or Jewelery mode. The coil quieted down the machine and made it very stable......if im unhappy i tell folks, But if im happy i tell folks more lol. Im happy happy happy.
