Nice work Pete and its good to hear the "rest of the story"... Good for you guys! Wishing all a happy, healthy, and successful New Year! HH...

Thanks Phipps. Just called G.I.B. We're going to meet for a beer tomorrow.

Great work Pete, I was getting ready to haul my dinghy over there to give a try for the money. Can you pm me the coordinates where you found the rotors so I can see how close my map location was? Thanks! Have a great New Year. Dell

Dell I can't send the coords because we ran across a debris field and we're going back to pick up small pieces. I hope you understand. I will send you the coords first when I can.

Great work Pete, here's hoping the FAA learns enough from the blades and hardware to prevent another fatal accident like this from happening. Good luck on the debris field, the most important clue may be in one of the pieces, get them all.

I'm hoping you can give G.I.B. enough data and photos of the project to give him a good article even though he missed the recovery.

G.I.B. - befriending a guy like Pete may well give you several aviation related articles, he is well versed in Florida's aviation history and its losses. I know of several worthy search & location projects that could make great articles based on some of Pete's research. I'm here on Tampa Bay as well and would certainly go along and help.

Jason

pete check out this galleon its right in that area where you found the blades.cords are on the scan. ship3.jpgship6.jpg

Pete,

The guy from the FAA talked to me last night. He is trying to get ahold of you guys as he is the fellow that issues the receipt for the blades, which you need to get paid. I sent him the phone number I have for you and I sent you a text with his information, I don't know if you received it or not.

Let me know if you need it again.

G.I.B.

I got the info. Thanks.

Fisheye, thats nothing but a big rock. Already checked it out 2 years ago.

Forget that Pyrat Rum...release the Kraken!
(this stuff is really, really good!)

http://www.facebook.com/TheKrakenRum

The blades have been an issue...

Robinson Helicopter Company will pay $1000.00 to the person(s) that locates and recovers each of the two main rotor blades ($2000.00 maximum). It must be the major structure of the blade. Any small debris (related to the aircraft) recovered and returned would be appreciated. The location of each blade must be recorded, preferably with GPS coordinates.

A map of the possible area the blades may be located and blade descriptions can be found @ http://www.robinsonheli.com/bladereward
Upon recovering blade(s), notify FAA Inspector at the Tampa Flight Standards District Office (630) 215-7449
Reward Payment:
Upon submitting the recovered blade(s) to a FAA Inspector from the Tampa Flight Standards Office a receipt will be issued for the blade(s) and contact information for the submitter(s) will be recorded. Once the blade(s) is/are identified as the blade(s) from the accident aircraft a check in the amount of $1000.00 for each blade will be issued to the submitter(s) and mailed to the supplied address. All federal, state and local taxes and fees which may be applicable to this payment are the responsibility of the recipient.

I asked in post #27 if those are barnacles on the blades. If they are they are probably from another helicopter. Ever heard the saying "one a day in Tampa Bay"? There have been lot's of copter crashes. Don't spend your money until you get it. Not trying to be a party-pooper but that is the way it works on here.

Bigdogdad,

They are Robinson blades. I've flown it enough to know 'em when I see 'em. The one blade still had the pitch change link attached.

There is so much pollution here in Tampa Bay that barnacles are a major issue. The blades had about 30 days to ferment and grow in the water, which makes them have about the right amount of crustaceans. On the other hand the nearby golf courses are the greenest they have ever been, and the zillion dollar homes littering the bay have some beautiful yards as well. The Redfish are beginning to grow an actual third eye now. Combine the phosphates and nitrates with the millions of gallons of accidental raw sewage dumps into the bay by the city and, well... you have some pretty happy barnacles.

...no other Robbies have lost their blades around here lately either

G.I.B-Thanks for replying to my question. I did not realize they formed so fast. Learn something new everyday. Good luck.

BDD I was in the water about one hour. When I came out I had barnacles on my tank.

Just FYI I have a really good source that tells me only one blade has been recovered. Please follow this link robinsonheli.com/bladereward/ to the reward page. There is still $1000.00 dollar reward for the second blade!!!

Thanks Phipps. Just called G.I.B. We're going to meet for a beer tomorrow.

Nice job Pete. How did your meeting go with G.I.B. ??? Did you meet with him and have a beer and work something out to give him a finders fee for turning you onto the rotor blades???
I think that is only fair. 8-)

I called him and got his voice mail. He never called back. We only found one rotor blade. We are splitting the reward 3 ways so I will get $333. I lost my mask on the last dive and had to buy a new one. I also bought a new full wet suit. After spending $275 I have $58 left. G.I.B. did not turn me on to the reward. My dive buddy was the first one to tell me about it.
My buddy is not interested in going for the second blade. Anyone else interested let me know and I will show you where it is located.
The FAA picked up the rotor blade from my buddys house yesterday. I have not seen one penny of the reward money yet.

Dell I am boatless.

Also, I saw what I think is the second blade on the sidescan. It is in pieces. Robinson will not pay $1000 for a piece of the blade. They want the whole thing.
