My TNet hunting buddy, Bergie set us up a hunt, on one of his permissions in the Lowcountry of SC. We’ve hunted it with some success before. It is former plantation land, with Civil War history.

At the last minute Bergie had to cancel, but insisted that I proceed ahead. What a guy! He was missed.

I hunted for 2 days, maybe 6 hours a day. I enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, however the finds were a bit slim.

The woods were really nice, featuring a few 250-300 year old live oaks, from the original “avenue of oaks”.

The woods was full of Golden Orb Weaver spiders. I saw at least 20 of them. I tried to avoid them, but one managed to get on the Deus.

I only found modern coins, I really would have liked one old coin.

Here are the relics I found.

I found this, I believe it to a be a piece from a saddle, if you know otherwise, speak up. It has some fancy on it, looks really old.

A few non-Confederate, plain front flat buttons showed up.

I did find a Civil War relic! I wasn’t sure about it’s ID, so I posted it on the What It Is part of the forum. Fullstock confirmed the ID, and CBG wrote an excellent dissertation on Williams bullets. Check it out if you are interested.

Here are the pics of a fired Williams cleaner bullet I found.

I also found this very small (4.5 gm), broken spoon handle. No engraving, dang it. But it has a few hallmarks on it. I see the lion passant, but I’m not sure about the others. I was glad to see that shiny object show up.

I had a really nice time, despite Bergie not being able to attend. See you soon buddy.

Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts!

Cool man....I like that little spoon handle.....congrats on a nice hunt !!

I think you have a monarch profile of King George lll on that spoon bit ! Nice ! likely dates 1800-1820 .

Nice and very old silver spoon, too bad there isn't more of it. Lots of other nice finds too! :icon_thumright:

I'd take that silver spoon over any coin any day, congrats buddy!

Looks like you made some nice finds Tom. I like those buttons, the spoon handle and the Williams Cleaner bullet.

I think the date letter is a C - that might pin it down for you .. the shape of the "shield shape " around it , and the details of the letter itself matter - you have to compare it carefully with the possibles - but the monarch profile , and the style of the spoon end suggest early 1800's

Hey man! Nice going and too bad that I couldn't join you. Williams Cleaner and spoon handle are cool. Spider,,,,not so much! See you before end of year and we will hit couple new permissions for battle areas.

Those some wicked cool looking spiders! Congrats on the nice mix of saves :occasion14:

well done Sir, you managed to carry on pretty darn well by yourself, looks like a ton of holes dug. your endurance is a whole lot better than mine is these days.

I'd consider that a successful hunt, Tom. The lack of old coins didn't hurt it a bit. You found two of my favorite relics: flat buttons and old lead. That silver spoon handle kept your " Silver Mafia " rep going:occasion14:

''I found this, I believe it to a be a piece from a saddle''
Its the top half of a late 18th C Horse Harness leather strap guide. The missing bottom part was a flat oval piece with 2 holes that lined up with your U shaped piece.

Nice finds Tom!
