Franklin, there's a psychology your are a victim of. It works like this, if I could give an example:
Along the coast of CA, I have seen some wickedly good days of metal detecting when storm-beach erosion is severe. You know, like "100 silver coins" in a day, or "15 gold rings in one day" type of stories that circulate amongst those of us who chase such things. We research all the time, to determine (from buoy data and weather reports) when the tides, swells, direction, wind, etc... will be *just right* to produce good erosion. And sometimes we do ok. But those *really good* days of 100 silvers and 15 gold rings in a day, are very rare indeed. And to be honest with you, sometimes we go out and ....... despite our best efforts at our forecasting formulas, we find only so-so normal results.
And each time I come home with meager results, I say to myself: "you know, come to think of it, the swells weren't *actually* high enough, or the wind turned wrong at the last minute", etc... There's *always* a reason, in my mind. However, each time I'm about to head out, my hopes are high, and I believe I've isolated a spot which should be producing.
I've noticed that on days when I've studied my weather and buoy/surf date, that .... for whatever reason ... I CAN'T make it out there (got called in to work, etc...), that ..... I am very bummed, just assuming I've missed rich pickens. But truth be told, "rich pickens" are rare, EVEN after "all my homework". But in my mind, that singular day that I couldn't get there, I bet THAT was the ONE day it was going to be red-hot. See how the psychology works?
So the more you "get denied" (fancy that), the more your mind wants to believe that THIS was truly a treasure (that grand conspirators are all conspiring to deny you of).
Me thinks you've been watching way too many Clint Eastwood Spaghetti westerns (wasn't gold-in-a-grave the plot of one of them?). Of course, you will dis-believe those of us who tell you such things. Because *sseeeooo strong" is the desire to believe in buried treasure ("lest you be left out"). So we're probably wasting our time.
