im trying to do a comparison between gpx4500 vs 5000. old subject i know, but i was wondering how good the sensitivity and depth would be with a joey coil or coiltek 6" mono. would that be competitive with a 5000? for a 2k price difference im leaning towards the 4500. i want a machine that can pick up 4-6 grain pickers deeper than a vlf.

im serious. the machine goes crazy if i have the pinpointer in my pocket. its affected even in my back pocket. my cell phone is the same thing. machine will hear it 3 ft away. even when turned off. i have my good ol keen reineer boots that i use cuz they have no metal in them. luckily the pick doesnt have the same problem as the pinpointer and phone.

i figured out why the machine was going crazy..... i blamed my wife's cell phone at the time :tongue3: ... come to find out it was the garrett carrot in my pocket. :sadsmiley: its so bad i leave it at home now, dont even trust it being in my backpack. bummer. now i have 200 yds of bedrock i need to re check

You detect with your pinpointer turned on? My GPX5000 will also warble from that and needs to be a fair distance away. Sometimes, I can tune it out by doing the frequency selection with the pinpointer turned on, so it picks a frequency that does not interfere. Glad you sorted it out, but I would not intentionally leave home without a pinpointer as they make digging so much faster.

I just re-read your post and it sounds like you detect the pinpointer even with the darn thing powered down? That is crazy sensitive. I guess no cowboy belt buckles either for you....

the machine doesnt act up with solid metal objects, but things that have expanded metal it picks up from quite a distance. like a metal screenand any electronics
