Got the measurements and a picture of the inside?
Great looking piece, though it looks like it has been stripped.
But that might just the photos and my eyes.

The wood doesn't appear to be hand-planed which would be a must for 17th century, plus the wood would have developed a rich patina if that early, even if it were very well stored. I assume the wood inside looks about the same as the outside--the inside would be much rougher and un-planed, you would see the tool marks of it being hand-hewn on the inside surfaces. The shape and hand-wrought iron hardware suggests 19th century at the earliest. But still very nice.

Don't have my notes & files with me but, Google up trunk restorations. You'll find several guys that have encyclopedic knowledge, and you might get some offers if you're interested in selling. Sorry not much help without my files.

I'll have to agree, don't think any earlier than mid 1800s

Not seventeenth Century... IMO

It is not indicative of the type... hardware or style thereof.
Metal is WAY too thin... Spanish re-pop era style... made to look older... with re-purposed handles /hardwares.
Wood is not of type from that period as well.... and shows very little age... within 50 years age to me.

It doesn’t look anywhere near that old between the wood’s patina and cut style, as well as the hardware.

Not mine but this is the only thing I could find that was close to it so could men's this is not mine I'm not trying to sell it I'm just using it as a reference but the hardware looks in the wood it's the only one on the market and it isn't finished wood there is where on it but it has been cleaned from the patina that you're talking about maybe it's not that old but what's the value does anybody know

Personally i don't see any more than 300 bucks sitting there.... reality is max of 500.
And that is a stretch.
Take it to the flea market and you would get half those #'s.

And it wouldn't be me paying that.

I agree with the majority. I can’t imagine it is that old. I would guess much newer based on wood condition, hardware type, etc. Possibly this was a “17th century-style chest”. I’d guess no older than 1880. Too many little details are wrong IMO. Nice looking blanket storage. Or a great way to start your own treasure chest; store your finds in it.

So to be totally honest I inherited a property and found this in an old tool shed and thought it would be a good storage box I didn't notice it's beauty because it was painted w/flaking old blue hs paint and someone at sometime( I'm thinking the depression era) had put wooden skids under and screwed some homemade wooden wheels with casters on it, as I began to look at it I realize that the wheels didn't match nor the wood skids so I remove them and then I started taking the paint off of it and I realized the hardware so maybe I screwed it up but I scraped the paint off of it and then lightly scuffed it with hand and steel wool but my relative who passed was 92 years old and and I don't know where they got it from or when but it beautiful now and maybe it's not 17th century but I think Ill keep, trying to find someone to appraise in person locally but thank you everybody I believe it's probably 1,800 but not late 1800s I don't know I don't know nothing though thanks again though

Even knowing you refinished it to some extent, changing the original surface, it's still obviously not any earlier than mid 19th century and most likely even newer, possibly much newer. It's not 18th century or even early 19th. Difficult to date more precisely without seeing more detailed--in focus--photos including close ups of the texture of wood inside and out. I agree with ARC's valuing it at $300 or so but that's full retail and you'd need a shop for it to sit in and wait as long as it takes for someone to come in who says they "just have to have it" to get anywhere near that range. They sell consistently at auction for around $100, no more.
