Not 10 minutes into Today's Hunt, I hear Josh yell to come over and this is what I see in the hole

I had given Josh the H.M.A. from Friday as a birthday present. Today he was able to return the favor :headbang:

Today's H.M.A. on left, Friday's to the right (Hampton Military Academy)

Again, Hampton Military Academy buttons are what Josh and I have been after every hunt for the last 6 months. To get two in two days is beyond any wildest dream we ever had. As Josh says below, listed as one of the HARDEST to find Confederate buttons. Thanks for sharing the experience.

The rest of the dirty finds

Check out this 1906 Indian Head Penny with a female Indian's face bursting through!! (silver plated) Possibly associated to Hampton Normal Institute?

you are on a huge roll! wow! congrats! so did he give you the button he dug? or ya swapped back?so you each have your own dug button now? i'm confused here. :dontknow: :laughing7:

That's it ,I am throwing my detector away,I can't keep up with all the finds you guys are pulling. Awesome recoveries!!

Great button!! Since it might cause some confusion.. this button is misattrib'ed in Alberts. It is properly listed in Tice... under the Virginia section.

Tice VAS273 - Hampton Military Academy. "Albert's association with Henderson Male Academy is in error" Most of these buttons has been found in close proximity to the location of the school itself, the original burned my the Union in Aug 1861. Nice rare button for a school that was only open 9 years!!!

Thanks for clearing that up Monkeyboy. Hope the usual nay-sayers will be able to sleep tonight. Thanks again.

Wow congrats on some tough buttons. I Think American Digger had an article about those coins a year or so ago.

Yep, that's what I thought. I told Jeff earlier that I was pretty sure that there was a mistake in the Alberts book (just didn't have mine handy to double check whether it was Alberts or Tice's). All the real civil war relic hunters know about that misattribution of the Henderson Male Academy for the Hampton Military Academy....its well known in the Civil War relic community. Thanks MonkeyBoy :icon_thumleft:

Another GREAT day hunting, Jeff! Congrats.

I gotta admit though, I like the Indian maiden most. Someone spent a LONG time working that one out. Real artistry.

I agree with Tuberale on the Indian maiden. Congrats to you both on these rare finds. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

Sweet Jesus. You two... I don't know what to say.

That photo of that SWEET button in the hole is the MOTHER of ALL finds photos!

The Navy coat button is one hell of a find in its own right. A Real Beauty!

The pop-out coin is a pretty cool find too. Several of these have been posted before--and I'm thinking they were all V Nickels. They were pressed out from a die--so that means that they were not handmade...but they are still rare as hens teeth. Rtde had one he posted with the shark pit finds, but that one is gone from the forum now. If you PM him, he might be able to send you a photo of it.

Cheers,

Buck

Thanks Will :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft: Yep, I told Jeff, that the Navy Button was a prize find today in its own right...with all that Gold still left on it, that was a NICE ONE to see pop out of the dirt

Jeff, when you do something nice for your hunting guide, it gets repaid (Attn. Dman). That's incredible hunting. I see now that you guys are hunting in the shade. I wondered how you could cope with the heat. At least people won't be shooting at you at that site like they will be in Iraq. Those are rare buttons. Get Josh to write an article for one of the treasure magazines on your recent finds there as they are extraordinary my friend.
Since Josh gave you a button, you owe him a new truck or maybe a surplus army tank-he'd like that. HH, Quindy.
