I've been spending a lot of time out in the "field of dreams" with Oxbowbarefoot but he couldn't get out today so I hit my draped bust dime site. I almost forgot what great history I have in my own back yard but this was a good reminder. Things started slow then I got a solid 77 on the at pro at 8 inches and got this liberty cap, a half cent to boot. Only my second one the other being an 1803. Now it's time to hit this place hard. Grabbed a few tombacs a big pewter button, and a 1787 connecticut copper with great detail. Hard to believe the CT and the liberty cap were only feet away and are in completely different shape. The next was a big surprise because I always say these old time farmers didn't have much money and silver is hard to come by. SILVER SPOON!! No way!! Couldn't believe it. The only marks are the MC. I did a little research and have a few possibilities on the maker but not certain. Maybe the MC is just someone's initials and not a makers mark. Any thoughts? Unfortunately I was about out if time and had to make the trip down the mt. It was pretty hard leaving when things were just picking up. Oh we'll there's always next time and the trip don't seem so bad when there's finds like this waiting.

It's an adrenalin rush for sure! I'll never forget the encounter. If I get to hunt the big woods with Graylock it's no headphones for that reason and moose also. HH

I've had a few close calls. a sow and her cubs in some tall grass was the only one I actually felt in trouble. You should try to get out before snow hits.

man, you got some awesome finds today! That CT Copper is in incredible shape. Have you had any luck with an ID yet ( I might have missed a post or two, using the phone to view this). The spoon is wicked cool, especially since you might be able to figure out who it belonged to with a little research. That half cent is amazing! I've got two half cents, but neither are anywhere near that old! I'll be ready to hike those mountains with you soon, before the ground freezes I hope!

Happy hunting!

Wicked hunt, man. The copper and silver spoon are beauties. :)

I would imagine you have more bears than we do the state has 60 radio collared in this area, Hampshire co. alone. I would like to get up there before the freeze?

I have hunted with you and you have creaped up on me I think :laughing7:

Great finds.

Great looking copper for sure, well done.

I believe it's a very common miller 33.2-z.12.

1787 CONNECTICUT COPPER -
MILLER 33.2-Z.12
Rarity: Very Common

Good match here, and with the matching die crack under Britannia's arm, and it being the only use of the reverse die on this variety, that solves it.

1787 Connecticut Copper - Miller 33.2-Z.12

You posted right after I decided to track it down. Note to self... always reload before posting. Anyway, you now have confirmation you're right!

I might have not seen it though because when I seen the post above it made me realize I had not replied to a private message yet, and went to do that, and then straight to coinfacts. Anyway, too bad it's common. but when you dig a CT you never know because the rarity numbers are only based on what's above ground.

Took me a while with all those varieties but this is my first coin I was able to ID myself. As for it being a very common one. Oh well. One of my nicest coppers to come from the ground.

I also found a old copper yesterday. .its a little different. .the back side says Britain next to the woman standing..I can also make out a 6 on the end of the date...wondering if you know what it is?? AND if you could tell me how to clean it better? ? Any help would be great. .
