Legend Update Frustration

I don't consider myself very computer literate, so looking for advice on updating this Nokta Legend, from someone that knows how computers operate. I've had this machine for over a year and still running 1.05. I do not have a home computer, and have asked previously in forums, only to get one or two replies with bogus information, that wasn't very Friendly. Now I mentioned my only access to a computer, was a public computer at the local library, and had concerns about if this option would work. Well apparently, from what I noticed, you cannot download drivers, or programs to the C drive of a public computer or alter it's software number one. Then I thought oh, I'll just get a potable USB flash drive for the Library's USB D port on the front panel. Downloaded the files to be extracted? Extracted to where? Even if I downloaded the drivers for the computer to recognize the Legend I would have to restart it but those drivers won't be on the boot drive C because you cant alter the public C drive or download to it. Am I correct in this theory? Even if I had the files on the flash drive plugged into the USB port, how can I plug my Legend USB cable into the computer when the flash drive is in the only available port? Even if I could plug into another one on the back panel, I still do not think it would work? Or could it? I want information from someone who knows how computers (public) function, not from people who had no problems on their home computer that let's them install to their C drive please. Another situation is they will have a firewall that they will not disable for me. Also the 1.05 version does not have "Factory Reset" option, just to get that out of the way. Yesterday I tried for the first time to do this on a fairly new Windows Laptop, it wouldn't recognize the Legend, not sure if it was because of Anti Virus software or not, but all it would do is download update files, then when I clicked on them the would just open the folders without any download operation taking place when opened. I was able to push the up button on legend to get the "Up" on the Legends screen but no operation or recognition from the computer, I didn't think the person, whose computer I was using, was comfortable, with me disabling their anti virus software, so that didn't work either. Really frustrating buying a new machine, with the old software, and only a month later after purchasing it, they upgrade to the newer lower shaft and coil option, but that is no big deal in comparison to still running 1.05 and not even being able to factory reset the unit. As strange as it may seem, I know of nobody with a home computer to use, and was in a town 3 hours away when I finally got the chance, and now that opportunity is not available. When opening the folders, I had seen folders with 1.07, 1.09 versions but none with 1.15, and this was from the Nokta Website. Thanks in advance, to the knowledgeable person, who can understand these variables, and inform me that, technically I'm screwed with the resources I have or to anyone who can educate me on any processes or program features on the computer, that I'm not aware of, to perform the update!

I moved ya from HELP! over to NOKTA DETECTORS > NOKTA LEGEND for more exposure.

NOTE: Forum HELP! contains guides tutorials on how to use the new TreasureNet.com software.

You don't need a computer to do a factory reset. As far as the rest I can't help.
You cannot do a factory reset with version 1.05, so a computer is needed to update to newer versions that have that option.

Did you buy your machine in person(store).
Or was it online?

Are Nokta updates different than other mfrs.?

I don't understand why the flash drive is necessary.
OP should be able to download directly from the internet into the MD with only a USB cable.

I'd explain to the librarian first, so they don't freak when you bring the MD brain into the library and connect it to their computer. If interested, they might even offer to help you--IDK (I've met librarians of both persuasions).

You won't be able to install the update using a public computer. The drivers need to be installed to the operating system (C: Drive) to work.

I tried updating on a library computer and it's a no go . The library staff tried to help but the system does not allow . I bought a second hand computer on ebay and the update was so easy..used computers are not very expensive..good luck.

You are correct the ability to do a Factory default reset was not added to the Legend until 1.09 came out so any earlier versions never included that ability, that's one of the things I never could figure out is why Nokta released the Legend with the 1.04 version and never gave us a way to revert back to the factory default

you have to watch out for Chinese knockoff detectors. never buy on ebay or amazon ! even some guys that claim to be retailers are known to do this. the one place i know is safe is kellyco there 100percent legit and i have gotten 6 detectors from them a friend of mine got a minelab 3030 on ebay and it was a fake ! took him 60 days to get money back! if your going to buy a detector get it from kellyco detectors and also right from the manufacture if you can,

That's for the confirmation. Yes I bought my detector new from an authorized Nokta retailer, detector supply. This reassurance tells me I'm not crazy yet. I don't know how much of a difference it will make with the updates. I'm still finding decent items. I missed a few opportunities to use a family members computer and a friends, because it really wasn't on my mind when visiting, but now it will be in my plans on future visits. Thanks!

Crudbud keep in mind if and when you do an update to the firmware on your detector you will also want to consider having the latest users manual printed from the Nokta web site as they do not send these out, the PDF file is there with all the current information.
Otherwise you could risk muddling around to the point to where your detector isn't usable for you in your soil conditions.
Seeing some features to what ever version you go with will be tucked away in one menu or the other you'll want to know how to navigate to those features, and those won't be in the manual that you got with the legend seeing yours has 1.05 on it now.

Crudbud, did you ever get this problem resolved? I just loaded v1.17. Could not have been easier. Aftrer I did the software update I downloaded the manual. And then a lightbulb lit and I tried to download the manual to my phone . Eazypeazy. Now I'm truly computer and smart phone literate, but that makes me wonder if you could use your smartphone to upload to your Legend? Someone on here knows if that is possible for sure.

Sandog..the 1.17 update was easy for me also but as far as the manual ,I am wondering if anything is changed since I printed out the v1.15 manual?

Don't know. Other than the cover page. It's likely that someone will do a page by page comparison. Since I didn't have it on my phone before it's all new there. If there were any changes I got 'em.

Well, it appears the update tool for acquiring the the latest V1.17 software ( along with 1.09, 1.11, 1.13, and 1.15) can only be downloaded to a Windows, Windows 7, or MacOS. Guess that rules out the phone idea.

No, still running 1.05. Still finding stuff but not sure how good the updates are. Maybe I'm missing stuff, but it seems to work. As far as updating on a phone, I thought of that too. But it requires a desktop or laptop running windows or apple software, I have no access to either at the moment. Thanks.
