It's always been a matter of perception.
Folks from the last few generations look at the stone and see a "witch", because that's all they know.

Yeah, Most for sure, and who would carve a Witch adorned with a Cross, nobody in this day and age, But a few hundred years ago they would, And if its a dangerous journey, Why not carve the wizard of Christ Church.
