Ill drink to that - I miss the Reagan years also!! The entire country just felt damn proud!! I think the carter years were a low point for the country and Reagan brought the pride back. Remember the embassy hostage situation, what an embarrassment!! Reagan came in and they were released the next day. Ill be knocking back a single malt today and remembering. Best

Seems to be a lot of gray area in the definition of "assault" weapon. Is an assault weapon defined as a gun simply having a 30 round clip on it or would it be any weapon with cosmetics { black, forend grip, made to look "military style" , etc}. Does this mean that any rifle that has a high capacity magazine such as a Ruger or Marlin .22 caliber with a 17 or 18 round tube mag would be considered an "assault" weapon??

That's why when any of these laws are drafted there are specific definitions used. Assault weapon as defined by 2 or more of the characteristics ..... Etc, etc. unfortunately those definitions tend to be poor ones looking far more at the cosmetics of a gun instead of the actual operating characteristics. Same issues as you point out about. When the fed law was enacted most manufactures just made minor changed to their guns and quickly skirted right around the new law. As they say the devil is in the details.

I know this is a pretty late update here, but I live in Rockland, where this newspaper is sent out, and recently they had a follow up headline on a newer paper, explaining how no homes or people were targeted as a result of their publishing, that it was all hype. Still, it caused quite a stir around here, and kinda reckless of them.
