Even if 30% of all gun owners turned their guns in,what are they going to do against roughly 70 to 80 million gun owners,not much.History lesson....after the British marched on lexington and concord,they were shocked at the number of militia that there were hounding them along the way back to Boston.People may think of a few hundred to a thousand militia members there but,there were 11,000 to 14,000 militia members there or on their way there by the time the British had reached as far as lexington on the way back to boston.History will repeat its self.

The vast majority of us will not, the quickest way to start Civil War II is to try to gut the 2ND amendment or to take Americas guns away..... With out the 2nd amendment the rest of the Bill of Rights isn't worth the paper it is written on......

The 2ND amendment was put in the Bill of Rights to protect Americans against tyranny or abuse from our government.

I may be mistaken but when I hear people talk about another civil war, or another any war, I feel they've never been in one. They've never been shot at or had to shoot at someone else. Wars are far easier to start than to finish. That kind of talk shouldn't be bandied about carelessly. JMHO

When I joined the Airforce in 1967 I took an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic as do all who join the military, I took the oath seriously and still do. To attack the Bill of Rights is to attack the Constitution, there are millions of Americans that will not sit by and watch the Constitution be gutted and destroyed.

I am not advocating another Civil War, I am not praying for one, nor God forbid, do I ever want to see one, but there are millions of Americans that will not sit and watch the Constitution be gutted and the country be destroyed from within because we are too afraid to defend it....

I am a student of history, it was the one topic in school I loved. I enjoyed reading early American history, our founding forefathers and their writtings......The 2ND amendment was put in the Bill Of Rights to defend the citizens from a government run amok, as long as it is there the other rights are guaranteed, once it is removed the others rights want mean anything......

As far as being under fire that depends on if you count SAM missiles fired at B52s your on as under fire....

Very good post as the colonists had already seen "a government run amok" - and that is what they were fighting against!

Those who do not understand (or worse, are not taught) history, are doomed to not just repeat it but will suffer the excesses that those who came before did not because they took action.

Let me preface the following statement by saying our young men AND women in the military DO NOT fit into the statements I am about to make.

We've become a complacent, lazy, litigious and mostly effeminate society in the last half of the 20th century and it continues today. Our young men (to a large extent) have been emasculated, taught to be anything but men. There is no drive to do the things that our forefathers did . . . we're just out to have a good time. They'll do almost anything in a simulator, but if it involves leaving the couch (or mom and dad's house), it ain't gonna happen.

Shooting bad guys in a simulator isn't the same as shooting them with a real firearm. Too many of today's youth wouldn't do it because the recoil would hurt them.
