Legal Gun Owners in New York Outed Like Sex Offenders

December 24, 2012

A corporate media owned website in New York has posted the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in three counties in the state.

“Data for all permit categories, unrestricted carry, premises, business, employment, target and hunting, is included, but permit information is not available on an individual basis.”

The Journal News submitted Freedom of Information requests for the names and addresses of all pistol permit holders in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. It used Google Maps to pinpoint specific locations and included the names and addresses of permit holders.

The Gannett owned newspaper did not specify a reason for invading the privacy of handgun owners. However, considering the animosity of officialdom in the state toward the Second Amendment and the right to own firearms, the reason for outing legal handgun owners should be obvious.

The Journal News map resembles others posted online revealing the names and addresses of convicted sex offenders, thus giving the impression that handgun ownership is criminal.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo called for gun confiscation last week following the shooting at the Sandy Hook elementary school. “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it,” the governor told a local radio station during an interview.

New York City mayor and noted anti-Second Amendment activist Michael Bloomberg went on Meet the Press on December 15 and demanded Obama issue an “executive action” calling for the ATF and the Justice Department to enforce new regulations aimed at law-abiding American practicing their right to own firearms. “What the president can do is number one, through executive action, he can order his agencies to enforce the laws more aggressively,” Bloomberg said.

Exactly why permit process and lists are objected to.

At least the criminals now know where NOT to go :laughing7:

Wonder if those harmed as a result of this information being given to the criminals will sue the perpetrators of this outrageous behavior and abuse of the first amendment?

Sure would be funny as well as fitting.

BTW, which ******** news organization did this? Inquiring minds want to know . . . so that they can suggest lawsuits to those injured by becoming targets!

or look at it another way theifs know where to "target" their robbery attempts in order to try break in and steal "legally owned guns" while legal law abiding citizens are "away' from home --its a guns stealing crooks "shopping list" of homes with guns in them. --they just got to be sure no one is at home at the time they break in and to flee rapidly if they do come home suddenly (in case they have "carry permits" * )

Too bad they can't do a map with red dots that represent all the non registered weapons. It would probably cover up most of the blue dots...

I was thinking the same thing guys, almost like an open invite to home invasion. What idiots.

The elite want action. Confiscation is on it's way?

This is publicly available information, so as offensive as this is there's no invasion of privacy.

Also, confiscation will never happen. The only solution for pro-disarmament folks is to encourage voluntary concession of weapons. I'll go out on a limb here to say that such a case is 99.99% unlikely in the US.

If I were one of the homes without a blue dot, I'd hurry up and get one! This map is the perfect theif's tool, but only an idiot would target houses WITH guns in them. That's not to say such idiots aren't out there.

Consider it their warning shot and a future thief will get no other.

Yep, those lists are useful. Did you see Red Dawn? Frank111-1 profile.webp

oh cat cwap! I may would be a red dot, but that's only because of inheritances.

@Paratrooper ...

You need to be very careful posting personal information like that on the web. It seems that every time some offensive thing happens the wrong people get "outed." This can cause tremendous stress to innocent individuals. Also, is this any better than the "outing" of the gun owners?

Please, at the bare minimum you need to add your sources! Where did you get the names? Add a link. Where did you get the persona information? Add a link. How do you know any or all of these people were involved with this project? Add a link.

And why that compuvest link in the middle of your information? Are you connected with that company?

If you have anything to add to the story perhaps they would like to hear from you.

Post was deleted, it violates TN rules on posting personal info such as addresses and phone numbers on open forum.

Everybody move here to Texas. We love our guns and will die to keep them. Let the "left tards" stay in the snow.

When you say "confiscation will never happen," I have to ask how can you possibly know that. Confiscation of anything is possible in our society today. Congress can pass a law tomorrow taxing gun ownership out of reach of the middle and lower classes. The newspaper just made the point that gun owners have been TRYING to make the Country aware of for years - If the Government knows you have a gun, EVERYBODY knows you have a gun, and they can come get it any time they want to.

Criminals DO target homes and businesses where they think guns will be found. Guns are the holy grail of stolen items from homes. The government has been very successful since the 1930's locating, and keeping track of gun owners. If you don't have an untracable firearm, they know where and who you are, and in time, they WILL take the weapon if they want it.

I appreciate your point, Terry. Let's consider the social conditions required to successfully disarm millions of gun-loving Americans. Concession would never happen, of course. Perhaps it could happen one by one, but that would take millennia. And confiscation en masse would result in fight ... perhaps even a full-blown civil war.

For all the talk, it will simply never happen. The idea of disarmament is so radically untenable it's not even worth discussing. The greater danger to gun ownership is actually restricting new and associated purchases: guns, ammo, clips, accessories, etc. But let's be honest here, too: the market would simply go (further) underground. Guns will always be available to those who wish to purchase them.

I think that many, many people would give up their guns peacefully, without a fight. Then there are those that would not.

The vast majority of us will not, the quickest way to start Civil War II is to try to gut the 2ND amendment or to take Americas guns away..... With out the 2nd amendment the rest of the Bill of Rights isn't worth the paper it is written on......

The 2ND amendment was put in the Bill of Rights to protect Americans against tyranny or abuse from our government.
