Oh and during the test driving of this new dealio i have noticed one thing immediately that IF could be improved already is the notifications staying at top of page when scrolling down YET the other part / bar with search box hangs with ya... I think that bar should also contain the notifications in that bar.
Seems to me and perhaps i am wrong it would "speed up" / "help" the sites performance... (not sure how it all works so)...
But it definitely would be more user friendly.... for i don't like having to scroll all the way back up to see if there is a notification,
Also... dont want to many times click away from current place either to see.

So.... Personally in this thought pattern,,, if a swap were to be able to be done this would be a no brainer,.
I search way less and would not care about scrolling to top for a search beings i do it so infrequently.

Oh... PS.... i think the standard metals ranking should consist of the main ones... with diamond (not being a metal at all so you have surpassed metal altogether) being top tier.
BUT also adding a few others like platinum or whatever else can be used that are in lines of "household" layman levels.
I think its too technical for most in the new way.
Correct literally like i said... but perhaps too much so.... ?

A re-thought.., maybe metals are one tier... then above that into stones... IE: Ruby, emerald, THEN diamond perhaps to add a bit of difference as well as new tiers... thoughts on that ?

I like your idea and forwarded it to John. After gold maybe just add ruby, emerald, sapphire and then diamond as top rank.

I'll tell yall what... since I can't please everyone. How about you guys come up with the ranks/ladders and I'll replace them. I really don't care what they are, I just know no matter what I do people will complain.

So, submit a list that y'all agree on in here and I'll implement it.

Not getting what you mean really.
You want the search icon in the corner to display else where, or disappear?
I use it daily and I find it very helpful in digging up history of previous things.

That doesn't seem like an easy thing to do. Lots of HTML and CSS coding, possibly more with something specific on the Xenforo backend. Beyond my skill level. I can do really simple stuff with the software, but nothing too deep.

Mainly I just do linux systems administration and Xenforo administration. I'm not a coder. None of us are

Metals are pure elements.
Stones and most minerals are not, diamond is.

I agree drop the search and replace with notify.
You could start with hydrogen and work you way up the periodical table, make for more and finer distinctions. There are enough elements for the method to avoid becoming obsolete and we won't have to do this again until after I'm dead
I don't care what my label is, but in any case I'll need a whole lot of promotions to be anybody. Heck, I'm not even in the phone book

Also another thing crossed my mind....
Then there is a possible hiccup when we get into the higher end ...
Platinum for one... only potential... albeit at this time a remote one... problem with this ranking system...
what IF... platinum surpasses gold in value later in time at some point,, and not that it could not happen... FOR at one time this was the case and was that way for eons.)
Ps on this though.... on the "human minds eye scale" which is what i think really it boils down to... Gold has always ranked higher in scope more so throughout history so there is that.
Sheesh the conquistadors when finding platinum would toss it into the rivers thinking it was "unripe gold" in hopes of it one day ripen into gold.
So perhaps "rarity" should trump current market value thought ?

I added a link in the footer that says "To the Top" -- so you can click on it and shoot back up to the top of the page instead of scrolling all the way back up. I may turn it into an image since that will take up less space.

Edit: It's now just an orange up arrow.

Also, there is an arrow that shows up near the bottom of the page in gray that will scroll to the top... I can't get it to come up consistently but it's there sometimes. That's why I hard coded the one in the footer, it's more consistent... but the other one shows up not just at the bottom but as you get lower on the page, so it might be handy for some other people/situations.

It's kind of a floating button that shows up and disappears.

This makes it very hard when putting on clothes.... especially in low light.

So.... anyway... back on track with ranking....

I think the system should be based on the general ranking of GENERAL consensus of "what is valuable" as a norm / whole... no matter what that contains... but yet based on commonality.
The goal and answer to this i think would lie in these at least...

#1. Would a new person to the site understand it fairly easily.
#2. Would it be achievable in various levels to even the moderate user of platform.
(IOw's... would levels be too spread apart where the incentive decreases)
#3. Would a user associate whatever "label" with a status without confusion.

Low light or not....
Buttons are far better than zippers that disappear and then reappear ON the wrong place.
