Kevin in Colorado...and elsewhere

Kevin I cant believe you're not using a dredge on that claim.
Even a 3" would make a huge difference in the amount of material you could process now that you're on the pay.

You have a beautiful spot on the river, I am so jelly.

GG~

hi kevin and del norter, i'm a monte guy here were neighbors have either of you guys ever try the alamosa river
The Alamosa River does have gold in it. The trick will be finding good legal access. I?d start by heading upstream to Stunner Campground and the confluence where the Wightman Fork meets the main river. HOWEVER aside from those two specific spots, there are a lot of claims to dodge so don?t just wander around with a pan. The exact gps coordinates of the unclaimable spot at the confluence are in my book...see Amazon.

I think you have a good point. Lucky me, I have a friend with one so I don’t need my own. When I’m alone I prefer to keep it simple: gold cube or Grizzly Goldtrap.

My October prospecting has included dredging on my claim and a long weekend trip to California. There I visited my friend Jim (who I met here on tnet!) and we hit the Yuba River for a couple days. Fun times, pickers, and about 2/3 gram of gorgeous Cali gold! Fun times.

I got out after work today. In the rain but that's what raincoats are for right? Had to stop when the water started rising...yikes!

First time this month so I pounced on the chance. Makes 48 months in a row of getting out every month :)

I'll update with pics and weights later.
48 months inna row...?! WoW! Colorado too...!
Say, do you use snowshoes when you hunt , or fly south in the winter to do it...?

All these years later I’ve only missed two months in the last 10.5 years so that’s 124 of 126 months in a row.

If you pick a Sunny 45 degree day in metro Denver, winter digging is a great experience. In warmer seasons, I prefer the mountains of course. I live in the mountains these days so most months that’s the plan! Either way, I don’t let the weather stop me! Well, one exception: flash flood warnings!

The last couple months since Brian visited have whizzed by here in Colorado gold country.

I?ve been digging my claim where the water finally came down enough that I found a new paystreak with larger flakes. Considering that I am now selling display containers of 5-6 +30 flakes to tourists via a rock shop in Breckenridge, a shop in Alma and a tourist mine?s gift shop, finding this paystreak was a real win! Those +30 flakes earn me a dollar each so I?m ?making wages? on the claim!!

I?ve also continuing to explore more obscure parts of Colorado with a gold pan for my next book but that?ll take a few more years to finish. Lots of field research yet to be done.

Anyway, I hope you are all well and out there finding your gold!
Can we have a look at that paystreak pan Kevin !
Gt....

My 1/3 of the paydirt from a 11/15 outing to teach a new guy how to set up and run a sluice. He got the picker of course!

December prospecting was happily done on Lynx Creek in Prescott Valley AZ instead of in chilly CO! I spent a lot of the time teaching my local friend Dave to pan, etc. Had a great time and found a few decent flakes as well as lots of fly poop!

I forgot to post Feb so…this was out in metro Denver with a few friends from my facebook group.

My 80 year old mom wanted to learn to pan so I took her out to my claim while she was visiting last week. This was just 3-4 pans of dirt. The gold will go into a ring for my son on his wedding day along with gold from the girl friend’s family.

Here’s a pic of recent gold from my current federal mining claim.

Here’s the U-shaped dam I had to build on my claim to get the sluice running. That water is getting low!

Well, I’m a bit chagrined to see I haven’t been updating this for a year! I’ve been getting out digging routinely of course. My streak is 12 months longer!

I recently started metal detecting with a Gold Monster 1000. These were the first “nuggets” I found, in July. I spent a week at the AKAU Resort outside of Nome. Over the rest of the week, I found 5 more detecting as well as larger nuggets found while high banking and running their small commercial scale wash plant. Fun week, I hope to go again!
