Argued with myself about going back to the road project given it's about complete. But found myself down there swinging over all the dirt they've scrambled. Finding all the usual suspects. Then was certain I was going to pull up another pull tab when I pulled out this beaut.

Just a touch of oxidation, but great detail. Made it worth the trip.

I would say, probably dark top soil, and yes, more like sand, not clay. I base that upon other nice coins I have pulled from the area. But a lot of dirt had been pushed around and mixed in with sandy fill dirt...so I did not pull the coin from its original resting place IMO.

That Indian Head is in beautiful shape. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing with us.
 

Great looking Indian PBS. It sure beats the 1887 I dug from a field yesterday. My coin is so chewed up from chemicals, its not worth posting a pic of. Had to use my digital microscope to get the date off of it. Yours is in excellent condition.
