Went into the woods with some other club members yesterday. The weather warmed up nicely but besides
digging lots of shotgun and rifle brass,, the good targets were hard to find. I dug out a coin at 6 inches deep and it turned out to be a memorial penny. Go figure.
I did manage to add to my iron pile in the form of some tools. There is a hitching pin for a bull dozer, a small spade that was probably used by a trapper, and the business end of a ball pean hammer. The spoon is stamped W. Rodgers but it is Silver Plated.
I did manage to pick up a hitch hiker in the form of a tick. Make sure you guys keep checking for these little guys because obviously it is still warm enough for them to be active.

Looks like one of my typical hunts, spoon, deep clad, tick, but a beautiful forest to enjoy, nice finds!

Nice hunt with some cool iron there....them Memorials sound awfully good on a woods hunt....Congrats!!

Life in the woods can be a bit slow going. The nice thing is it's peaceful, easy digging, and "most" coins tend to be older if you pick your spots on old activity. Deep Memorials in the woods is just WRONG! Love the old iron but, you can keep the tick!:icon_thumright:

I rather call you "Iron Man" ATW. Glad to see you are learning your new area and meeting fellow MDers.

Ticks need love. NOT! Glad you had a good day.

Nice looking site you got out to, digging up a piece iron I always think there might be something under it-doesn't happen all that often though. Ticks-there's just nothing good about them.

I dunno about you guys and it won't make much of a difference, but every tick I pick off is neatly bisected wit' me pocketknife and becomes one that won't get it's lil' ass on anybody else. It's like bottle caps and can slaw. I don't throw 'em back down.

I have to correct you on one item. Were you near an old logging RR. That is not a pin from a bull dozer, but a pin from a link and pin train coupler. It was a crude way to connect two logs cars together.

We were on the side of a mountain where there was once a slate quarry.
I see you are "pa plateau hiker." Would "pa" stand for Pennsylvania?

Glad you were able to get out. The ticks were awful this year. You're gonna need a toolbox for all those tools.

There are lots of game in these woods. Deer, fox, skunk, possum, raccoon, and we have even seen a pretty big black bear. Plenty of hosts for these ticks.
This is the only tick I have brought home so far this year. I guess I've been pretty lucky.
Where are you in NYS?

NOW THE PIC OF THAT PESKY TOOL,TAKES THE CAKE///

Kevin,if you are going to woods hunt in Pa. you really need to spray your clothes with Permathrin. It will kill ticks for weeks.A tick borne illness can change your life foreverI use it in LI and NYC park Woods, very effective.
