Just A Peeve Today About A Seller

I generally go out to garage sales with $100 to $200 in $2 bills and a few ones. I will also generally have $1000 to $2000 in cash hidden in my car. When I am at a sale, I do not ever want to have to leave to get money, or get change. I may walk away from Quarters ($.50 books), but more often than not, they will throw in that odd book for free, to keep the gravel out of the deal. I've wasted too much time not having correct change, enough money, or so on. The faster I can make the deal, the most sales I can hit in a day. I did nearly 50 garage sales yesterday (I love community sales). For me, the key is hitting as many sales as possible, getting the gold, leaving the trash, and moving on as quickly as possible.

I've not had a garage sale in years but actually plan on having one in mid-July. That being said I have and always will plan on having change. I cannot imagine who would be foolish enough to start a sale up and not have at least a hundred bucks in the til to begin with.

Since many of you here do a lot of sales, I would like some advice I guess. Back in the old days it seemed like no one would haggle prices, but nowadays it seems like it has become the norm - do you all haggle a lot? I don't mean over large ticket items but I mean over small stuff. A few years ago at my parent's estate sale I had a tricycle priced at what I thought was a low price, three dollars. A guy picked it up and asked if I would take two bucks. Now I am thinking "really?" but I was very polite and told him that I couldn't. He put the bike down and left. Criminy sakes I used to have people try to beat me up on stuff I had marked for a quarter or something. So this time around I think I will just price everything a wee bit more to leave some room for the chronic hagglers. Just wonder what you all see at these sales.

I never haggle at garage sales if they tell me a price. It’s usually cheap enough for me. But as a seller, I always entertain bargains because once the stuff comes out for sale, I don’t want to take it back inside.
