I need a little button help again. This button is much more obvious than the last one I posted. I know that JRM Lyon stands for Jacques Ravinet Mesoniat, Lyon France. I believe it to be early to mid 19th century. Diameter measures 13.6mm. Raised letters. The only info I can find on JRM is that this company made buttons for the Mexican Army. This style does not match the photos on the internet.
Does this particular button style have a specific name? Is this possibly a civilian button? Does anyone out there have any more information on the maker?

*This was just a dumb luck isolated find. No other artifacts in the immediate area but…. It was about 80 yards from a metal arrow point manufacturing camp. So again, I’m leaning towards this being lost by a Native American.

All I can tell you is this.

J. Ravinet Mesoniat et Compagnie were in business from c.1826 – c.1873 as manufacturers of buttons, costume jewellery, religious items, and metal ornaments. They were on Rue Condé in Lyon. From around 1868 they seem to have had an association with C. Robert Fils (C. Robert and N. Robert) who advertised themselves as successors to Ravinet Mesoniat in 1873.

Your button is in great condition! Again while I can't venture who lost it, I can compliment you on a good description.

Thank you.
As far as who lost, it probably doesn’t really matter. I’m just speculating. Indians are the only folks that really make sense. I’ve read some of the military reports from the early 1870s for my area and they stated that there were no settlements, ranches, or “settlers. There were only small bands of Apache and Kickapoo with Comanches passing through, raiding into Mexico.
