This month has been outstanding for me. I have never in my life been this lucky and just want to say thank you to whoever is looking out for me.

I went out today for few hours just to kill time. I wasn’t expecting much so I was just taking my time digging targets. I digging lots of thrash as usual along with pennies. I was using the 800 and since I wasn’t finding much I started just jumping between park 1 and field 1. After a few hours I came across this iffy target that would jump all over the place with negative numbers and hit 20-21 once in a while. I’m like another Penny, I guess I will dig since it’s my last target. I dug it and I see this weird coin staring back at me. I grab it and I’m a little confused now cause it sure doesn’t look like a Penny at all. After a few seconds go by it finally clicks, OMG this a fracken gold coin. Now I’m shaking And trying to figure out what to do next. After a minute or two I figured I should put it on top of the detector to let it breath and take a picture. Well, here it is and I hope
this isn’t a dream. Thank you for looking and remember to dig everything because you just never know. HH

Awesome find
Congrats

C O N G R A T S!!!!!

Well, I guess now I'm digging iffy 20 signals, LOL.

Congrats on an awesome find! I believe it is a 1905-S $5 Gold Coin and with the Mint Mark so far to the West Northwest and the lower curve and tail virtually missing, it may be a Variety. Also, I may be wrong but the Mint Mark appears to be upside down. There are some Mint Mark Varieties for the Date and Mint but so far I have not found one similar to your's.

This helps a lot because the only thing I knew was that it was a $5 gold coin. I posted some closer pictures so you might see the detail better. Thanks a lot for the info and happy hunting.

Well, I can see with the new pics that the lower curve and tail of the "S" Mint Mark are not missing. The Mint Mark is just misplaced to far to the West Northwest which may or may not qualify it as a Variety. If you have a good Gem Loupe, check to see if there is slight evidence of another Mint Mark to the East of the "S". If so, then you could have what is called an "S" over "S" RPM even though the Primary is not directly over the Secondary Mint Mark. See the links below for examples.

Wow.. very nice. The one thing we're all looking for. Even the people that have already found one. Congrats to you Mister.

Super WOW! Every single MD has the same WHAT IF- I ever could find one of those, BUT I am not in the right part of the US- mainly the far southwest. SUPER HAPPY HUNTING!!!

Racso, as many before me have stated - "CONGRATULATIONS"!

You've come across one of the Holy Grail's of metal detecting by being persistent and digging all signals AND thank you so much for sharing your wonderful adventure!

This is as close as I've come to what you discovered and yes it is California Gold from of course, Nor Cal Gold country - (no mint mark though)

Congrats on your Gold Coin & banner. I hope people are paying attention. I've lost count of how many great finds have been an iffy signal. I actually like iffy signals now.

Amazing find!!!! If your gut tells you to dig, see what one more hole could net for you.
