Detector(s) used
Currently use Garrett AT Pro, Previously used the Fisher F2 for one year
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
It's been a slow couple of months, but I thought I'd post what I have found:
5 Wheaties
Silver ring
1942D Mercury
1964 Rosie

I found the Rosie in a Coin Star. The rest metal detecting. I post the Wheats just because they are getting harder and harder to find. Has anybody figured out a way to clean Wheats without using a tumbler? I've tried the toothbrush and soap but that didn't work. (And, no, putting them in the washer doesn't work either). HH out there.

If you're talking corrosion, any method you use will leave pits in the coin. It also removes the patina to the point of making them shiny copper color again. Acetone won't take the patina off, but, it won't take the corrosion off either. It's fine to use for anything gooey like tar, paint, glue, etc. Hot soapy water for dirt.

Very nice merc dime. They cranked up production for WW2. 203,000,000 made that year unless it’s a D or S mint mark. It looks to be in XF condition. Around $10 if it’s a Philly.
